Thoughts on young Alex Hunt

Recommended Posts

I think it was great to see a young lad making such an accomplished contribution today. Yes he got caught a few times in possession but several of those were him being sold short by others in the team. However, he's young, he'll learn quickly how to protect himself in these faster paced games. I thought some of his passes and flicks were delicious and showcased his vision and skill and he will be an asset to the club. Monk needs to stick with him giving him decent game time to build his confidence and repertoire.

The future is looking bright for him.

if joey had given the ball away as often he'd be slaughtered but for a young lad on debut he did ok .

True. But when JP can play some of the passes Hunt did today he'll get less grief. He has more dimensions to his game already, even taking a yellow for the team.

He did one great thing on Wednesday which many don't seem to have commented on. He was just outside our box, Bannan had the ball and the pass to Hunt was being closed down. He sprinted 10 yards forward to create the angle for Bannan to pass forwards rather than backwards, controlled it, took another touch then hit a great 50+ yard ball to the right winger who won a corner. From defence to attack within about 5 seconds. Quality play.

Think he will be a great box to box mf for us, but only after a year or so hard work in the gym.

I'll also say JPs job us to win the ball and give it, not win the ball and give it to the opposition. Creative players like Hunt, will always try things that may not come off. But for every time they lose the ball they generally create three or four more decent attacking chances.
