Kieran Westwood has another year on his contract

He signed a new 2 year deal under Steve Bruce

The club has to keep paying him for the next 12 months regardless of if he's playing or not

Amazing really. little over 18 months ago he was on his way out, cast aside by the manager but despite interest there was no chance of him leaving until he ran down his contract, such was his wage.

When the manager got sacked he was brought back in but still no new contract. By the time Steve Bruce had the chance to assess his squad, Westwood got offered 2 years. Given the way it has gone again you can only assume Bruce played a big part in influencing the decision to give him a new contract and knowing how much Bruce valued him, Westwood was able to negotiate 2 years rather than 1.

Now we are back to paying him lots for nothing, so much so we have had to give a short-term contract extension to a goalkeeper who hasn't played a league game for anyone since 2016 to cover just in case.

One of the best keepers in the league, someone will pay peanuts for him. But as someone said the wages will be a problem

And that's why he's currently 4th choice for us presumably, because he's such a hot commodity?

Just not bothered...

No-one is paying for a keeper turning 36 on colossal wages that a club wants rid of.

Rhodes is not on 40k ffs. I'm sure someone leaked the wages I think rob Stanton maybe or someone like that westy and fletcher were on 30k , forestieri was 25k and Rhodes 22k . Hutchinson was higher than rhodes on 25k asell

Nobody is on £40K but it doesn't alter the fact that Westwood is on a very good wage, one that no club is likely to pay him and offer us a fee for at this stage of his career.

Not a chance is rhodes on 22k a week . He was reportedly on 60k a week at boro. Why would he take such a massive pay cut? Unless its printed somewhere or some kind of recording of chansiri saying it then i find that laughable . He was the leagues most sort after player once and top strikers what at the time could score 20-30 goals in a season commanded massive wages. There have been many players earning upto 80k a week in championship so why would rhodes be on such a low wage?

We will struggle to give him away. Can’t think of a keeper who will be on a higher wage in this division.

Our last competent maanger deemed it necessary to keep him. If Bruce hadn't wanted him no way would he have got another 2 years. Ability wise he is better than 4th choice for us. I'd imagine the vast majority of our fans haven't seen highlights of Jones playing in goal for anyone, never mind for us!

I think other clubs would be interested in him but would only be prepared to pay probably half his current wages.

Only way he will be leaving anytime soon is if we agree to a generous golden handshake.

This ^^^.  At his age, towards the end of his career, he's going to stay here and milk it, topping up his pension pot unless he gets an offer elsewhere of another good wage, topped up with a payout from Wednesday to offset his loss in salary. Gutted really as best keeper we've had for many years but something seriously wrong so everyone's best interest if he moves on.

the downside of having 5 managers  in 5 years …….3 of them wanted him 2 didn't , monk will probably be gone before westwoods contract runs out so it's not cast in stone that's its his last one.

Key word: Competent.

Of the 5 managers (not including Lee Bullen) that have been in charge during his time at the club, which ones played him and which ones dropped him?

We need to try and cut our losses somehow in the summer. We can’t afford to keep paying a player who is frozen out - that’s sheer madness.

We just need a PL club who are looking for a back up keeper to take him off our hands for a nominal fee. I think his wages would scare most Championship clubs off.
