Personally not over the moon with this. I think he’s on the managerial slide. But realistically who else could we get? I think he’ll steady the ship for a bit, but not expecting miracles.

Will be fully behind him nevertheless

I think he did brilliantly with Villa to turn them around. They were very good last season.

He is a bit more than a ship steadier.

Sheffield Wednesday are delighted to confirm the appointment of Steve Bruce as our new manager.

Bruce will begin his post on 1 February 2019, before which long-time coaching associates Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence will take charge of the team.

Agnew will take a caretaker manager role alongside Clemence, while Lee Bullen remains as part of the senior coaching set-up.

Bruce brings a first class CV to Hillsborough, with an outstanding success rate of Championship promotions – four to date.

The former Manchester United defender, who enjoyed a glittering career as a player, has twice steered both Hull City (2013 & 2016) and Birmingham City (2002 & 2008) to the top flight.

Bruce also guided Aston Villa to the Championship play-off final in 2018.

The Northumberland product also came close to being appointed England national team manager when he was interviewed for the position prior to the appointment of Sam Allardyce in 2016.

He now joins the Owls and the vastly experienced boss will strengthen the coaching team at Hillsborough with the additions of trusted cohorts Agnew and Clemence.

Following a stint as Middlesbrough caretaker manager Agnew took up the post of assistant to Bruce at Hull before re-joining Boro as Aitor Karanka’s number two.

After his second spell as caretaker at the Riverside, Agnew was appointed first team coach with Bruce at Villa.

Likewise, Bruce has a strong working relationship with Clemence, whom he recruited at St Andrew’s as a player.

Clemence has previously worked with Bruce in a coaching capacity at Sunderland, Hull and Villa.

Bruce will be officially unveiled as Wednesday manager at a Hillsborough press conference in due course.

Has he signed a contract?

Don't know about the paper work. All I know is what others do which is the club statement. Know he went to the training ground and later he and his rep went and had further talks with DC and one of his advisers at a hotel in town.

I've been through most of the press stuff and can't seem to find anything about length of contract etc

I'm not convinced by this one. As I said on a previous thread, he's not known as a great tactician. Yes, you can't always pander to the tactics of the opposition and you have to set out for games your own way, but the following comes to mind...

Linky here

Then there's recent examples of him playing 3 RBs in a back 5 at Villa, including a CM at CB, despite selling/releasing 3 CBs that same season  playing one up top despite signing 7 strikers, playing wing backs on the same side together, one as RB, one as RM. The signs aren't great.

Seen elsewhere he has. Just was concerned with our egg on the face history.
