Another strange incident regarding charity at SWFC

Recommended Posts

Working for a company that gets constantly asked to donate goods to all sorts of charities, and being the one that deals with it, I think people just need to calm down here.

SWFC does a plenty for charity - and that's only the stuff you hear about.

They can't do everything, even if it might seem in isolation a small thing.  They'll have selected charities.

Annoying and disappointing for the ones not getting a donation - and SWFC could probably do more yes - Marketing needs to do a lot of work at the club - but no reason to jump on the moan list just because the football side of things is such a state currently.

Absolutely flipping unacceptable, this.

Does this flipping club WANT to lose young fans to the Pig side?  Say what you want, that club seems to be actively courting community involvement, whilst DC and crew wee pipe around with their noses in the air and their extortionate pricing.

I'm livid.

That's good to hear for some counterpoint.

But it's beyond distressing that our marketing is complete testicles, esp. compared to United's.

Agreed. It’s attitude more than anything, and from a personal point of view using it for gain of the clubs PR and having this stance isn’t good .

Yet more evidence that SWFC is a badly run club. It's also this kind of attitude and behaviour which will drive folks like me away from the club and to supporting another team eventually. I can put up with being crap on the pitch but sh*t like this is something I don't like at all.

First hand accounts here can't be ignored/discounted unless you think those making them are liars.

I don't like some of the posts I have read above but to say you may find another club to support is pathetic.

My advice is move on now I personally would find it uncomfortable sat next to you

No it isn't. This club's link with the local community is slowly but surely being eroded. Once its gone then there really isn't much point supporting it, we may as well all go and support teams that play the best football. If you kill the link between the club and the local community, for all but the biggest clubs, then that's pretty much the beginning of the end for such a club.

Last night at a family bonfire a relative who works for Shelter told me that she approached Wednesday and United for a signed shirt to raffle to raise money, what with the Derby match coming up and everyone being interested.  She said United sent a signed shirt, signed balls and several other items but the Wednesday PR person she spoke to told her that they wouldn't be sending anything this year as all that kind of activity has been stopped for the time being.  Another strange decision by our club.

Mmmmmmm.

Wednesday very unhelpful when it came to Ricky Moats fundraiser.

Spent a lot of time speaking with the club, firstly they wouldn’t donate anything, fair enough I guess (must get it all the time). I wanted to get a shirt as thanks for people involved but they wouldn’t even discount one at all. To top of all off, they wanted me to pay full price for the shirt but wanted a presentation at the club, and to have the photos etc for the website. I think not - I’m not paying for Wednesdays PR and to look great when they offering nothing to help.

We smashed Ricky’s target no thanks to the club and very disappointed with how that all panned out.

The club actually makes me sick these days . It’s disgusting

One thing I do know as an absolute fact is that the club are deluged on an almost hourly basis with requests for signed shirts etc for basically anything and everything, not all of charity or worthy causes etc although much of it is

But the sheer scale of the requests is crackers

No doubt.  It's difficult to sift thru, I'm sure.

But is it just me, or does the other club seem to be doing more and gaining more exposure with charities, events, et al?

Potentially.

I'd honestly hate to be the one sat sifting through 35 'can I have a signed shirt' emails a day though

Doesn’t stop them trying to get good PR when it features in the star though... I take your point but they should be able to cope.

Not sure how to parse what you're saying there. However it isn't just about charitable requests, we've had practically a constant stream of things happening at Hillsborough that are alienating more and more people. The club is a sh*tshow at the moment and has been for a couple of years. Granted, it's been utter gash in the past too but at least basic things to do with the club were mostly okay - eg, shirts, ticket prices, local charity work, etc. I'm feeling more and more of a disconnect with this club with each thing that happens and I can't remember ever feeling like that in the past 40 years of supporting Wednesday.
