So the average football forum fan knows more about tactics than someone who has spent all of his working life involved in the game.

Well obviously yes when cc keeps going with the same person at left back who should be left back in the dressing room

They scored because jones fell over and because wildsmith couldnt stop a telegraphed shot that was not in the corner of his goal, not exactly a moment of tactical genius on parkinsons behalf.

Having said that the reach situation should be simple to me at home Im happy for him to start there, he attacks better from that position and pudil doesnt have the legs to join the attack anymore. Away from home pudil or fox should start with reach on the winger and we can move to the more attacking formation of reach at left back later in the game if we need to.

Joao deserves a run in the side purely based on his performance against United. He looked quick, sharp and lively. Something the side is missing greatly.

I just don't understand why we keep doing the same thing over and over again if it isn't working - Joao defo deserves a chance, Fletcher is clearly not fit enough to play games in quick succession and away from home having Joao pace to stretch Beevers and Wheater would have been useful.

Showing a player inside is already as basic as you can get defensively.  It's the standard approach to funnel an attacking player into an area where you have more cover defensively, rather than risk being isolated one-on-one down the outside.  For the goal the unfortunate thing was that Jones was the cover...

I'm not sure saying Reach is vulnerable at full back is any great insight on Parkinson's part, and it's not necessarily a Reach thing - we seem to have been vulnerable at full back for most of the past 3 seasons; either through lack of quality in the position or style of play, or a combination of the two.

agree not something to put on his cv picking that out

what worries me is that whoever is selecting our full backs hasn't noticed it

Just read a report by Dom howson saying how Parkinson watched us in the Leeds game and how reach was vulnerable playing at left back and how he could use ameobis direct style to unsettle him.It poses the question how many times has Carlos been or the other backroom staff to teams we are to play to check out weak areas of opposing teams etc or does he just work with videos of previous matches or does he just watch the channel 5 highlights show

Did Parkinson watch the 8 teams they played before us?

Firstly the Bolton goal was not down to Reach. He did what most full backs would do . Their full back overlapped, Reach tracked him passing Ameobi onto Jones who promptly fell over giving the space for the shot.

People on here have been praising Reach this season, especially at full back , most were happy with the team selected for Bolton before the game however in hindsight it's far easier

We have a fundamental problem.

When we play 442 we don't have the players to find the right balance between attack and defence. Depending on team selection we are either too open or   tight defensively yet struggle to get forward.

In my view the problem lies in central midfield and always has.

We just don't have the two players who can play central midfield successfully in a 442.

Meanwhile Carlos insisting on picking certain players all the time and trying to fit them into a 442.

Until he changes the system, or gets one/two new central midfielders we will continue to be disappointed

This all goes back to Wembley. We all walked out thinking we came up short but the team would move on with the improvements required that would see us be a top 6 possibly top 2 team. It needed at least one strong centre half, a solid left back, a dominant central midfielder, a pacy winger, and another striker. Out of that we could at a push tick off the striker with Fletcher who finished up with a decent goals per game ratio although he didn't play regularly enough due to form and fitness. Lee and Bannan have their moments and are good players but not good enough to get us promoted. A central midfield of those two is too weak which see's Bannan pushed out wide who then unbalances the team. Lee pops up with the odd goal but regularly isn't involved enough when we don't have the ball and goes hiding. We don't seem to have the midfield that drives the team forward with players running beyond the player on the ball. Its all too safe and cautious with the first thought to go backwards instead of being positive and looking forwards.

It could be a lot stronger than it is. In many games we have been out muscled which I thought he would have addressed after his first season. Games against Hull and Burnley stood out in his first campaign. We are very lightweight, too nice and a bit soft. Not many leaders to roll their sleeves up when the going gets tough.

All teams attack down our left side. Pigs did it, Leeds did it and their chances came from crosses on this side and so did Bolton.

its no coincidence that one of our strongest performances this season came away to Cardiff with Pudil at LB and Reach on the wing.

we looked solid and Reach got an assist.

With Bannan on the left but mainly playing inside Reach is constantly left exposed.

But we’ve not even seen Pudil play since Cardiff.

This.

Reach isnt a left back for me.

Can't argue with that to be honest.

You also suggest our midfield, or part of, are not good enough to get us promoted. Again, can't argue with that.

So why do so many people keep saying, "we should be beating teams like that", "we have one of the best squads in the Championship"  and so on ?

Yep.

And moving around as LB one week and LW the next isnt going to help him in the long term either, he'll be known as just a utility player. He needs to nail down a LW role, he will improve faster if he only has 1 role to learn.

Its a good point and maybe its mixture of being fooled by the 20 minutes or so when the team dominates a game and the expectation level set by the club i.e we want to be in the Premier League for our 150th anniversary. I don't subscribe to those that claim we have players that should be playing in the Premier League and are "the best in the Championship". I am starting to realise we have an above average squad of individuals that are currently not good enough for mounting a promotion challenge.

Parkinson refers to a weakness caused by Bannan's tendency to drift infield and fail to provide cover for Reach who is out of his best position at left back.

He claimed the combination of Reach AND Bannan was the weakness. Can't see that left side combination being used again now its been so publicly exposed

The fact that Pudil was withdrawn after 60 minutes of yesterdays youth game along with Matias could have some bearing on Saturday'starting eleven.??
