So, we're leaving Hillsborough.

Oh grow up ffs.

Theres no need to move from Hillsborough. It's a great old stadium that just needs a bit of redevelopment. The ground means so much to the fans, the history is worth a lot more than the few years in the prem Chansiri might bring us. Would be really sad to leave

Will we be able to redevelop it?

How much will it cost to redevelop it?

Could you be in a situation where it actually makes more sense to build something new than redevelop something old?

Don't get me wrong - I'd much rather redevelop Hillsborough, but I'm not going to sit there and slate the chairman if he is considering alternative options.

Unless you're going to knock down the houses and re-route the river, we will always have issues with trying to get 4 stands' worth of people in through what at any other similar-sized ground would be two and a bit stands' worth of access.

Hillsborough can be updated, the whole area around it can't be - at least at any reasonable cost.

I'm quite sentimental about hillsborough there is a lot of nostalgia about it for me personally....I can instantly recall Humphries volley against villa, Di Canio's push, Antonio's goal against Carlisle, those nights against arsenal & Brighton. I love going down to Hillsborough and have done since my very first game and couldn't imagine Wednesday playing elsewhere...

however thar been said part of me does think we need an upgrade, just down to the finances factor, Hillsborough must cost a fortune to run, renovate and maintain year after year. It's falling apart in many areas. No matter how much I love the place you've got to think sensibly and what's best for the long term. SYP & SAG have got a vendetta against Wednesday, there's no point of been in the prem if we can only sell 27,000 tickets.

In a way part of me wants a move, but only if Sheffield Wednesday stay in S6, as I see the hillsborough/owlerton our area and must remain in the vicinity. Also you have to think about the economic impact on the local area, a lot of shops businesses in that area rely on match day trade which is another reason I think we should stay in the local area.

i for example couldn't imagine Wednesday playing near Meadowhall as it's just not how I think of Sheffield Wednesday

You do realise that a stadium built with SAG advising would mean that it would be built out of cotton wool, we would all have to wear HI Viz scarves, hats, and gloves (gloves to be worn to absorb any noise so preventing the possibility of any potential avalanches)?

We would all have a set time to enter and leave the stadium and will be escorted individually by five stewards, one police horse, two police dogs and three policemen. This might mean you might be in the stadium for twenty-four hours.

The stadium would be the biggest in the world, with each fan having an acre of space to stop any chance of bumping into anyone.

No hot drinks or food to be bought obviously to stop the chance of burning your mouth.

No away fans.  But the segregation of fans will still be enforced.

The two competing teams will not be allowed on the pitch at the same time.

You will be searched five times before you get to the stadium and throughout out the match, you will be searched at least three times.

You will have to attend a three year Health and Safety course and to pass the stringent exams before been allowed in the stadium. Please make sure you bring your hundred page dossier proving your credentials.

Oddly you will be allowed to drink before the game so long as you can demonstrate it wasn't in the preceding five years before the game.  You will breath tested three times.

You will not be allowed to bring banners and flags but you can have your own section of netting personalised.

No raising your voice, you may clap if have passed the quiet clapping course (six month course at a very very reasonable £1000).

The atmosphere will be tested throughout the game any obnoxious fumes (flatulence for one) the game will be quite reasonably be abandoned, no recompense will be made.

Enjoy your stay.

We will if we stop listening to SAG

Less than a new ground?

Financially? I'm not sure tbh- we don't fill hillsborough and you couldn't really charge much more than we do already in a new ground, so don't really see the need there. And I would hope that not all decisions are made purely on a financial basis anyway- although I may be being naive there..

Appreciate that, but IMO he needs to be sent a clear message that the fans do not want this. He's a hard assed businessman, I'm sure he can take a few insults

We will be playing behind closed doors if that ever happens (not that it will)

Access and egress is obviously an issue at Hillsborough on top of the concourses and the layout of the stands themselves.

You have to wonder whether it's worth redeveloping the stadium only to be told by SAG that the surrounding area is now no longer suitable and that they are imposing yet another cap on attendance.

Purpose and scope of a SAG (Safety advisory group)

SAGs provide a forum for discussing and advising on public safety at an event. They aim to help organisers with the planning, and management of an event and to encourage cooperation and coordination between all relevant agencies. They are non-statutory bodies and so do not have legal powers or responsibilities, and are not empowered to approve or prohibit events from taking place. Event organisers and others involved in the running of an event, retain the principal legal duties for ensuring public safety.

Seems like they have no legal power, just there to provide advice. So why would we be behind closed doors if we didn't listen to it?

How stupid is this.

We have a lovely old ground with history and a premier league capacity. Hillsborough produces a great atmosphere (kaiserslautern, Wycombe etc) and is far nicer than a lot of premier league grounds that are plastic bowls in industrial estates.

We've just had a new scoreboard so just modernise the west stand and north west corner like the world cup video & jobs a goodun.

That end will come down if we are promoted regardless. It's an eyesore to look at, the most complicated end of the ground to manage and a possible PR nightmare. I could see Liverpool kicking up a stink and boycotting it (despite the fact they used to sit in it for years after the disaster during the 90's) and it's just generally a headache the club can do without. Can see them pulling the Lepp down and hastily replacing it was a single tier stand, probably smaller but factoring in more TV/corporate stuff.

I believe if long term people are looking at redeveloping the gangways on the North, overhauling the facilities in the South, and either rebuilding or heavily modifying the Kop and Kop roof.. the club will have a new stadium option on the table and will push for that as the long term option.

Not a chance within the time frame. No proposals have been asked for and no planning permission submitted yet. A new stand is easily 1-2 years work just at the planning and consulting stage, then construction would be anywhere from 6 months to a year. talking 2-3 years before anything, and theres been no chatter about this anywhere in the industry
