Theresa May and George Hirst

Now we know that we are heading for a hard Brexit there will be lots of implications for football.

EEA(European Economic Area) players will be subject to the same rules as other foreign nationals and will need work permits. Premier League clubs will probably not be able to sign young talent from Europe, which will push up the value of promising young British players.

We need to tie our best youngsters like George Hirst down to long contracts, and to concentrate on British born players in the transfer market as their value is likely to rocket once we leave the EU.

Won't we still be members of EUFA or does Brexit mean leaving EUFA as well? is the movement of players in Europe governed by EUFA or the EU?

Will we still be able to eat french sticks?

Work permits are issued by our government to allow people to work here, EUFA aren't involved other than advisory capacity I suspect.

We are initially keeping all existing EU law and renaming it to UK laws but I would think immigration and work policies will be top of the list to update. So initially foreign players and doctors etc will be allowed to work here until we change the legislation but we won't be allowed to go there and work without a permit because we'll not be part of the EU, they may add legislation to let us work there if we ask super nicely. Glad we took back all that control.

It's almost as if the implications of Brexit on the ability of professional football clubs to bring in young foreign players without a work permit wasn't at the top of the priority list.

Not on top of government's list obviously, should be on the list of swfc somewhere though, our academy and ability to develop talent is as important as ever now and as Barnsley are showing the importance of contract renewals.
