Now we know that we are heading for a hard Brexit there will be lots of implications for football.

EEA(European Economic Area) players will be subject to the same rules as other foreign nationals and will need work permits. Premier League clubs will probably not be able to sign young talent from Europe, which will push up the value of promising young British players.

We need to tie our best youngsters like George Hirst down to long contracts, and to concentrate on British born players in the transfer market as their value is likely to rocket once we leave the EU.

Yes, and you will be calling George your lawful king in due course

This can only be good for the game as it will mean less cheap , band average  foreign players coming here taking the squad places of young british players .

I thought the idea of voting leave was that we could take back control of our borders.

So we can let in who we like, when we like, without requirement of work permits.

Europeans came to play here before 1973 when we joined the then Common Market. Not many, because players earned more in countries like Spain and Italy.

Likewise, it didn't stop our talent going to work in mainland Europe.

The early 60's saw Gerry Hitchens, Jimmy Greaves, Joe Baker, John Charles, Dennis Law and others play in Italy etc.

The fall of the pound means that foreign stars will seem more expensive though in future.

We will always be in Europe anyway.  It's a continent.  Our continent.
