The Owls vs Fulham. Official Matchday Thread. (FA Cup Remix)

Ah, the magic of the FA Cup - where we get the chance to play against the big teams, or some really obscure ones that we normally wouldn’t meet in the course of a season.

TODAY’S OPPOSITES

Are called Fulham though and we played them last Saturday. We also played them a few months ago, beating them in both games. We have to win this game too, so I don’t have to do another Fulham thread again in a couple of weeks.

Let’s go on to win the cup and get promoted. No more Fulham threads ever again, but all the Prem teams instead and as cup winners, we can kick off our European campaign with an away day opener against Bulgarian third division champions FC Mekanik Stavros 07 because they manage to win their domestic cup too. Those south eastern Europeans have inexpensive booze that can knock a horse out, gorgeous women and the weather is lovely.

Much nicer than a third round cup tie against Fulham in January. Imagine the fun that can be had watching the Owls win away, getting blind drunk, stealing a tractor and spending the night in a Bulgarian jail. There’s even a Tay-Tay gif for that!

MATCHDAY FACTS

Both Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal and Fulham counterpart Slavisa Jokanovic are expected to make changes for their FA Cup tie.Forwards Marco Matias and Sergiu Bus could return for the Owls following injury but Tom Lees (hamstring) and Michael Turner (knee) remain sidelined.

Midfielder Scott Parker and striker Cauley Woodrow may start for Fulham. Goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli (knee) and midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe (hamstring) are long-term absentees for the Whites.

The two sides met in the Championship last weekend, with Wednesday winning 1-0 at Craven Cottage.

• Sheffield Wednesday have played Fulham four times in the FA Cup previously (all third-round ties), most recently in 2009 when the Cottagers won 2-1 at Hillsborough.

• Wednesday have reached the fourth round just three times since 2001 - being eliminated from nine of their last 12 third-round ties.

• The Owls have won only one of their last six third-round games at Hillsborough, excluding replays.

• Fulham have progressed from each of their last six FA Cup third-round ties in which they have been drawn away from home, but have needed a replay in five of them.

KING CARLOS’ WORDS OF WISDOM

In a unique take on the January transfer window, Carlos Carvalhal has said it provides an opportunity to refresh a club.

Wednesday sit seventh in the Championship after 25 games and as the FA Cup takes centre stage this weekend – the head coach is happy with the current situation at Hillsborough. As such, Carlos says the Owls are not looking to make too many movements in the window and he explained:

“The transfer window is nice, when you open the window fresh air can come inside so you can refresh your house.

That means that it is not negative, it is a positive. When the transfer window is open, we have the opportunity to change one or two things.

If you did well in July and you don’t have too many problems during this period, you don’t have to move too many in January. If you have a lot of problems in this period, you must move a lot in January, this is my opinion. At the moment, we are in a very good way.”

Stayed up especially for this, and you didnt disappoint. Though The fact that you go on about Bulgaria makes me think that you are running out of things to say about Fulham. Hope no replay for your sake.

One nil. Lucas showing why he should start.
