Sheffield Wednesday sign former Real Madrid winger

Happy - we wanted a winger and we've got one. Hopefully he offers more than Maghoma and can swing in some proper crosses for the attackers and hopefully could be a better set-piece taker than Maguire, as we badly need one. If he turns out to be awful, disruptive or both, then we can send him back in January and I can't imagine we're paying that much of his wage bill. Hopefully SG gets him invested in the team spirit we have here and we're sorted with a very good player at this level. If not, there is always the next loan window to try again...

And Tom Lees is rubbish, apparently.

Roger Johnson and Tom Lees aren't quite the same as Drenthe, though. Johnson lost his way at Wolves after very successful spells at Cardiff and Birmingham, so that was a case of us getting an obviously talented player back on track after a poisonous spell at one team. As for Tom Lees, most sensible Leeds fans were saying they'd regret letting him go.

Drenthe's career has followed a downwards trajectory ever since he left Real Madrid, every club have said his attitude stinks, and a team in the same league as us don't want him.

SG has impressed us all with his man-management, but I think taming Drenthe might be a step too far.

The Read Madrid thing is being played up too much

He's essentially a Reading reject. He wasn't even given a squad number this season.

A few of their fans saying he cam be lazy and disruptive. Hope that's not true. Our team spirit is excellent at the moment

Hopefully Gray can bring the best out of him

Just like Antonio who scored against them for us and Forest.

Cheer up love and lets see him play first before we get critical eh?

The best thing to do is support him, cheer him and basically get behind him.

It's ok opposition fans saying this and that yet he's not there now, he's here.

Opposition fans never really have a good word to say about players who haven't done anything at their club.

Even if he's fairly average he's what we need - numbers and variety in attack. The decline in his career has been a strange one as he started well at Real and when he inevitably became surplus to requirements did well at Hercules in La Liga before understandably falling out with the club over the fact that they weren't paying him. Since then he's been rather disappointing - did OK if unspectacularly at Everton but scuppered it with a piece of idiocy (reporting back late after compassionate leave so wasn't going to be asked back), with the biggest disappointment looking average after dropping down to The Championship with Reading.

On balance a decent signing - even on his Reading form he'll be useful in adding to our options in attack, while if Gray can get him to grow-up a bit and cure him of his moments of weapons grade idiocy we'll have a player on our hands. Contract expires next summer, so if he plays well and enjoys it Reading aren't in a position to dictate terms. Alternatively, if he plays too well, no doubt the parachute payment clubs will start sniffing around.

I'm told Drenthe move came out of the blue for #SWFC. Also told Wednesday not in any other discussions & not expecting to start any.]

Thats actually a very "odd" statement. The move came "out of the blue" for Wednesday ?

Strange if you think about it !

How can a signing come "out of the blue" for a club ? Not Mammadovs influence is it ?

I get the impression he is a player who starts well and then fades away. Hence the short term deal.

He does yeah. He was a big hit at Everton intially and even did well at Real under Pellegrini I think it was at one point.

Then must lose form for one way or another or get injuries. A short term long with the possibility to extent is ideal.
