Shocking negative tactics our downfall today

Recommended Posts

may not have gone grandad but I have ears and eyes mate, and I am not stupid ,but if it upsets to much i'll refrain from commenting ,with one last sentence  you can't rely on penalties to win games , now ask daz and  others that don't go the same question

Obviously when we listen to commentary it's impossible to say if something is in or out of the box or a penalty.

But we can get a good idea of what is going on.

In the first half, you hardly heard a Millwall player being mentioned, we were attacking and had the ball for much of the half and were creating chances - with Millwall creating nothing.

In the second half, all you heard was Millwall players with the ball, some near misses, the odd break from us, and the commentators wondering why we were sitting back and being so lethargic. On one corner, we had a striker taking the kick, with only 3 in the box. They then got the inevitable equalizer and we then abandon sitting back and bring on another striker and start trying to win the game again.

Sad thing is, we should have tried to win the game all the second half instead of just containing.

Why can't someone sat in the dugout see what Daz has seen from 6000 miles away?

You can argue the to$$ about Jones' negative tactics, the re-signing of Prutton and Coke, the lack of money for new signings. In fact you can argue the F**king To$$ about anything you Bloody want but at the moment we are side who play percentage football because that's all we can play because of the quality (or should I say lack of quality) of the players at DJ's disposal.

Quality costs money. We don't have any. It seems sometimes like we never have had given all the Sh!t and struggles that we have had over the years. So we are where we are playing percentage football. Playing for corners, free kicks & throw ins. Trying to get Antonio on the shoulder of the last defender for the ball over the top. When you play this type of football you need to get a lot of decisions in your favour from the officials but we all know there's sweet fanny adams chance of this happening?

So we are in limbo until things change whether it be a change of manager (which I think personally would be a mistake), DJ hitting on a better balance in formation and play than there is at the moment or Investment from the top whether it be from MM or a change of ownership?

As long as we avoid the catastrophic losing runs of last season then I think we'll finish higher than last season but nothing will change dramatically IMO unless one of the above happens?

I understand where you are coming from however Jones has to use what he has to produce results.

The second half wasn't about percentages - it was tactical suicide.

Playing 442 at home and attacking poor teams costs nothing and will keep us in this league.

The problems we have are compounded by Jones tactics.

If he thinks fans want to watch us sit back against an awful team who should be attacked he's deluded.

He will lose games and see gates drop.

It reminded me of his 4-5-1 tactics with Bothroyd last season.

His mindset is total negative at home. May cost us dearly.

Agreed^^^^

Jones got it wrong today with the half-time substitution. He should've replaced Buxton with either Maghoma or Maguire and then he's got the option of sticking Antonio on the wing which I think he should do anyway because Antonio's not an out and out striker.

Bringing on Semedo made us even more negative and pedestrian in our play. I like Semedo but he seems to be 5 yards off the pace at this level and putting him in the same midfield as Prutton and Coke was a selection/tactical error.

I think we do have problems as we already have seen if Buxton/Reda are unavailable. There can't be many sides where the full backs are integral to how we play or the positive effect they have on a side.

That said if DJ wasn't our manager last season given the cards he was dealt with we would've gone down and I think he'll keep us up again this season but understandably just staying in the Championship is not good enough for the majority if our fan base and I suspect it's not good enough for Jones either?

It was Dave Jones fault linesman flagged for penalty blah blah blah.

Remember!!! It's Dave Jones who put us in Championship.

But he can't live off that forever. We need to win games in the here and now. He deserved all the plaudits he received for the way we finished that season but he shouldn't escape criticism for poor tactics now.

No it wasn't his fault the linesman flagged but it was his fault that the decision to give the penalty cost us 2 points. We have players who were capable of winning that game today as the first half proved but sadly we didn't have the tactical approach to win the game as we should have done.

No doubting how well we did 2nd half of last season but much of the so called cards he was dealt last season were dealt by him.

He tried to fix something that wasn't really broken in the early part of last season which changed the way we played, affected morale in the squad and saw us go on 2 bad losing streaks.

Agree with OP.

Very strange decision to bring Semedo on for Buxton.

To begin with I thought he was gonna play right back with Palmer still up the pitch.

But that midfield was abysmal in the 2nd half.

semedo, prutton and coke? Dire. Against Burnley Dave even admitted they are just break up players.

Poor decisions today from the manager.

Exactly, shame some have only just started realising this now.

Recruitment this summer has been laughable.

Protest next game yeah?

You gonna protest from behind your PC screen at home?

Prutton, Coke & Semedo are first division players who should not be our central midfield first choice trio. The shocking lack of investment in this area is perhaps one reason behind DJ's decision today; he simply has little confidence in stopping runners coming straight through - bit like McCormack last week.

No doubt about it, that 2nd half was horrendous.

Worrying too much about the opposition, which we had pretty much at bay all first half.

Chaplow man marked by Prutton? Fuuuucking Chaplow.... poo the bed.

Poor decision to change shape, leaving an out of form Antonio up top fighting for scraps at home against a team that's been reamed every week so far.

Feels like a defeat, but more concerned about the Rotherham 'one off' performance rearing its head again.

Can't blame the ref for that crap.

Yep, these 'one off' performances are more regular than the positive start we made at QPR. Last weekend wasn't bad as an away performance against a side that has started well but we just don't look like imposing our style of play (whatever that may be) on our opponents.
