Your Antonio valuation

Recommended Posts

The problem is Reading are now a Prem side and don't need to sell. I reckon he is probably worth between 500 - 750k but Reading want more because they hold all the aces. If they don't agree a deal to sell and keep him they don't really lose. They just loan him out again (assuming he doesnt make their squad), he'll likely do well and they can sell him for even more later. Worst case sceanrio he doesnt do so well but maintains a decent amount of his value on earlier promise.

The things is Antonio is in his last year at Reading, why pay 1million plus when we can get him for nothing or for far less late on in the season?

Okay it's not ideal and fans get annoyed but can you not understand milans reluctance to pay more as he knows Antonios is out of contract soon?

Yes you can, the player will be available for next to nothing in January, which might be part of the reason nobody else seems to be bidding for him.

Reading are asking for daft money from us, which will alert other clubs to the fact he's not available for a sensible fee, so unless Leicester come in and throw daft money at them, Antonio is going nowhere.

All Reading have to do is offer Antonio a contract - that way they would be entitled to compensation due to his age if he left - so they would get significantly more than nothing.

To those who say Antonio is unproven in the Championship - he has played 28 times for a very good Reading side in this division. That it ain't that bad going really.

He's made 28 appearances, majority of which are most likely from the bench and no more than 20 minutes here and there, and in total, he's scored 1 goal.

If anything, all those stats prove is that he's probably not worth the money.

Didn't think of that to be honest,

Any idea how much they could be entitled to? Compared of course to the figure they seem to want from us.

No, it shows that he was a young lad trying to gain experience in a very good Reading side (Kebe and Mcanuff were just 2 of their wideman at the time), to play 28 times was a good achievement, and shows how much promise Reading see in him.

Reading debut in 2008

He's started 4 league games and made 24 substitute appearances in 4 years at Reading scoring the 1 goal.

He's now 22 years old.

He's never had a loan spell to another Championship club, but spent time at 3 League One clubs and 1 League Two clubs.

He is unproven. Unless you want to read into those stats another way....

The thing is we've had a bid of 350k turned down and apparently a 700k bid turned down as well. That doesn't mean they value him at more than 700k. We could have offered 350/400 up front and the rest based on appearances/promotion and other clauses when all Reading are holding out for is 700k straight up.

Who knows..

if he hadnt played for us last season, £400k no more. If he was a young winger with hardly any championship experience and only a bit of lower league games, would anyone really rate him at anywhere near the £1m mark?

Based on what he did for us id pay up to £700k, but after that im pretty sure we can get better for similar so would move on.

That much promise they shifted him out on loan last season twice, without offering him a contract and allowing it to run down to its final year.

Don't try and and dress it up. 4 starts and 24 sub appearances for a 22 year old Championship player does not prove he can cut it in the Championship.

Worth maybe £750,000 now but could be worth £3m in few years.

Pay 750k and give 20% sell on fee. That way, if we sell for £3m in few years, Reading will have made £1.35m. We'd make £1.65 off the deal.

Fair division of risk and reward.

True, but it doesnt make him a proven Championship level winger, not even close.

Different level of course, but one example I'd use is that Liam Palmer has made a similar number of appearances for us, but the majority of them were not starts, and he only scored 1 goal, therefore it would be impossible to call him a "proven" player at that level, and start demanding inflated fees for him.

Taken the words out of my mouth mate, it's totally understandable why we havent signed him yet. Some need to realise that.

that would only happen if he played in the premiership. Outside of strikers, youll struggle to sell too many players for £3m IMO who havent done anything in the top flight.

He could be worth a bit more if he has a couple of good seasons in the championship, but at £700k plus add-ons/sell-on fees, we would struggle to make too much profit on him.
