Furious George
Just reminds me what a bad job Irvine is doing. Odd that isn't it.

Guest frannys ears
Great news. The majority of our attacks come down the wings, so it makes sense to have a big man up front to work alongside clinton, who is more the fox in the box type. Dont know too much about the kid from motherwell, but rangers put a £1m plus bid in for him last season and can play centre half as well as left back, so hopefully he could replace purse rather than play left back, where jones is playing well. I dont rate Irvine at all, but maybe we should offer him the job as chief scout.
theowlsman
Not having a go but Madine again has Wednesday written all over it scored a few goals, surely Le Fondre was the one to go for a statement of intent consitant scorer over a longer period as for Reynolds a strange one unless someone leaves at present Jones has earned the shirt at LB and Johnson has just come in at left CB,really don't see spurr going so not sure where he fits in. What makes you think Spurr won't go mate? Where do you see him playing when we have a fully fit squad? One thing's for sure, someone will leave. I'll predict Spurr will sign for another Yorkshire club
Mike Oxlong
1 centre mid and one left footed left winger would do nicely now.

Glaser
The Carlisle fans don't seem upset by losing Madine ..... surely tells us all we need to know.... unless it's sour grapes of course..... As for Reynolds.... odd one this as we already have... LB's ..... Spurr + Jones LCB's ..... Beevers + THE RADIATOR RCB's.... Purse + Morisson + Hinds + Buxton RB's .... Semi + Buxton + Morisson

Semi + Buxton + Morisson Seems clear that Irvine is replacing the weak links now that he can. If it's true that Reynolds is the signing people are saying he is, I think he'll go straight in as 1st choice CB. I'm only basing that though on what I've read on here (never a smart thing to do ) Long term Hinds & Purse will be released in the summer which leaves 7 defenders, which isn't excessive in a squad. As far as I'm concerned, not only is it not excessive, I'd argue it's at least one fewer than we need.

I think in the summer we'll bring in another specialist right back as Buxton is arguably better at CB. Obviously depends what division we're in* and who's in charge but I think for now that's what AI is planning. * If we're in the Championship we may replace other players with better quality. BRADDAZ
I can't see no reason why Reynolds can't partner Johnson at CB until Buxton gets back. My first choice defence though would be: Buxton - Morrison - Johnson - Reynolds I'd then move Teale onto the right and move Jones forward to left wing. I think Jones has a cracking cross on him and he's good going forward from left back. Think he'd make an ideal left winger. Convert him, just like Spurs did with Bale (obviously on a different level, but similar sort of player).

I also agree that Jones needs to play further forward. I would have JJ on one side, and Teale or Jones on the other. Reynolds can play as an holding midfield player too, but I think he has been brought in as a left back, so I would expect the departure of either Spurr or Beevers. Just a bloke, who used up all his luck in one go when he met his wife.

jonnyowl
Purse and hinds will leave in the summer that will leave us with 8 defender! Even if Spurr or Beevers left then I can't see them being replaced until the summer!

Guest Batigol
Morning All, Please dont think Im being overly negative with this post, Im really not but looking further at Gary Madine's record at HERE shows that his career record is 22 goals in 101 appearances. Futhermore 4 of those goals were in the FA Cup against Tipton Town, a team of builders who I saw play against Sheffield FC and who were lucky to get thro. Incidently, a chap from my local pub (Mount Pleasant in Norton) scored for Sheffield FC against Tipton in the 2-2 encounter. Anyway, lets just keep a realistic outlook about the level of player were signing here and not get ourselves carried away that weve unearthed the next David of Hirsty. TheEnchanter
I know its not exactly the same but when Swindon signed Charlie Austin from non league I bet they were thrilled. (not) and look how he turned out for them. Michael Kightly for wolves is the same. Give Madine a chance.
