fife_owl
Milan will have been told by everyone what a fantastic manger Irvine is. He will also have been given all the excuses as to why, despite having the best squad in the division, our performances have been poor. Irvine will be allowed to improve the squad and be judged on results by Milan. I reckon if the performances have not improved by mid-Feb he will be gone. gurujuan
The trouble with that scenario, by the time we get to mid Feb we could have lost another 4 or 5 matches thus almost certainly condemning us to another season in this division. No wonder the likes of big guns comes out wi the poo he does, anyway in answer to your question the likes of Deane & Morgan aren't proven coaches who could progress our club. since59owe
I dont think he will sack him - but he should. He's had the best set of players at S6 for a long time and signed most of his players. Giving him loads of money won't fix his tactics Thats the problem in a nutshell ! RobHowe
I would suggest that a decision will be made during w/c 3rd January depending upon results over Christmas. Mandaric won't stand idly by if there's a decision to be made.
full fathom five
Irvine is a coach, a number 2. We have had plenty of good coaches end up with the managers job and i cant think of any that have been a success Shreeves, Yorath, Eustace, and now Irvine. dorian gray
Irvine is a poor manager, clueless who's decisions regularly confused 15,000+ people. A crappy defensive approach that obviously doesn't work. Get rid, before it's too late. he's a defensive coach who can't throw a defence together... Guest angel
since they good times with trevor francis in charge how many managers have sheffield wednesday had?. quite a few!! irvine needs to be given a few million to spend on bringing new blood in who don't mind playing in cold weather. then we can judge him on how good or bad he really is. i would expect if by the end of january things aren't going well then he should get the boot. at least if he goes by the end of january someone else will have time to get things sorted. oldishowl
I would probably get rid of him but you cannot argue with the facts that we have a small squad with Coke , Semi and Buxton injured and JOC , Potter, Purse , Spurr and Beevers (none signed by AI) being absolutely dreadful players. Can we kill this myth that says we have the best squad in the Division because we patently do not!!

Kraschenbern
I think this is only my second post on here. I come on and read everyday, but generally most of the time someone has generally said what I wanna say, so I don't feel the need to post. However.... ...after the events of the last two weeks, I feel its time to put my point of view across once again. The problem I have with AI is that he clearly cannot get the best out of that squad. We have a good victory, followed by one of the worst results I can remember. This makes me ask the question, does Irvine have any positive impact on the players. Clearly the 6-2 win was 'cos the players were fired up, had a new owner to impress, and several extra thousand fans behind them at Hillsborough. Any decent manger would have the same team on a roll. My biggest question is this......what the hell did he say to them at half time? It was either the wrong thing, or he said the right things but the players just don't believe in him. For this reason he has to go. And it has to be this week. We can't go through the January transfer window with him signing any players, that he probably won't even be working with come February. We need someone new in to start building their own squad, or at the least strengthen what we have. Irvine realistically has no long term future at the club. His style frustrates the fans too much, and simply does not get the results we need. Any player watching from elsewhere will never come. He's too stubborn to give people a chance, the fans are on his back, and his style is negative at best. If you were a young Arsenal or man City star looking for first team football, would you come to Hillsborough on loan? We need someone who is gonna bring in some decent young loan talent, or someone who can attract one or two excellent experienced players nearing the end of their career. Much like Laws bringing Gray in. It may be a pipe dream, and i'm not sure he's even remotely available, but for me Martin O'neil would be absolutely perfect. Irvine Out. O'neil In. Owlsinmisery
First chance I've had to logon today and I'm so deflated that AI hasn't gone. Deep down I knew it probably wouldn't have happened, but what better time than after a 5-1 humiliation. My guess is that MM is waiting to see where we are in the first week of January. Anymore losses between now and then must surely spell the end for him. I'd suspect that MM has already made discrete enquiries and has someone in mind who will bring a winning and attacking mentallity..........he does know what the fans want and he seems passionate about wanting to unite us all. theowlsman
Only a guess, but I'd say Monday, after a full discussion with Board colleagues first, then a chat with AI, would be the most likeliest day for AI's dismissal. A message for Milan: 1) AI simply does not fit in at the club. For us all to be pulling in the same direction, we have to have faith in the manager yet we don't 2)Quite obviously, he is not an inspirational type of manager yet this is the type of manager we need 3)It's simply a matter of time before it all collapses around him, so do the sensible thing now, to give us a fighting chance of getting automatic promotion THIS season.
