Sick of hearing about how good oposition is

More uninspiring shybo from AI.

And hints that he will be "thoughtful" about his selection. For thoughtful we should read caution, negative etc.

Just get out of my club please.

BTW - wouldn't it be nice to have a manager like Nigel Adkins who speaks so positively. And I don't think he rates us or AI. We've played same way against his teams on 4 occasions - his have apparently played differently. Even in this division, with our squad, with our budget we are still being descirbed as functional, professional and hard-working. That hurts.

He clearly sees our midfield as a threat then........

Polar opposite of Irvines preview and fair play to Adkins - Sflaphorpe had consolidated their place in the CCC, well above their status, based on a positive mental attitude and I expect him to drill that into Southampton from top to bottom.

I am sure Irvine is a bloody good coach but the motivational side is a serious concern.

Words cost nothing, so nobody can blame the lack of that on being skint..........

Southampton do need to be respected as a team. Their current league position belies the quality in their team and theoretically they should be our biggest threat for promotion.

But that said, I don't agree with the amount of "respect" Irvine appears to be giving them. This team shouldn't be scared of anyone in this league. We've got a home game against a team who have had an absolutely abysmal start to the season on the pitch and for whatever reason, be it the death of their owner or a change in manager, have also been in abit of turmoil off it. We should be getting in at them. Win and we not only take 3 points and end our crap form, but we also pick up an important victory against a side who, poor start aside, should still be up there come the end of the season.

These sort of comments sound like the ramblings of a manager who'se team has just been heavily beaten by a quality side, and yet we're 26 hours from kick off. Ridiculous, Alan.

What do we want a changed team that goes for it ,or a 1 - 0 win?

The feeling is that AI is kiiling the spirit.

For ONCE talk us up.

Tell them we fear noone we are going to tear them apart and then pick a team to try and do it and I for one would be 100% behind them.

Same old same old from Irvine. If/when we lose, I'll give you his post-game interview right now.

Very disappointed with result and performance

*insert name of opponents here* are a good team who didn't make things easy for us

Will work hard in training to put things right

Will consider changes for next game (but won't make any of the required ones which are glaringly obvious)

A) Yeah ! All their manager has to do is throw a few copies of the star around the visitors dressing room and Irvine would have done Southamptons job.

B)I sometimes wonder how many fans have ever seen the inside of a dressing room on match day !

A) You have misinterpreted my point by the looks of it.

B) Have you ever been in the changing room during a teamtalk on matchday?

I don't know why he bothers with all this anyway.

As we're facing administration, our players will not be mentally right, won't play very well, and we'll lose anyway.

Its the No. 1 excuse for crapness.

Until we get taken over sometime in 2014 we'll most likely lose every game.

Reading these previews just makes me so depressed.

I just hope he talks to the players in the dressing room and on the training ground in a massively more positive manner.

No wonder Alan Irvine is so well regarded and liked in the football community. He has compliments and motivational talks for every opposing team we play.

:laugh::laugh:

Some harsh comments here, but very funny nevertheless.

Maybe DJ1 should organise another good luck message campaign to send to the players.

Really?

The majority of posts in here are based on the last few weeks pre / post match comments.... and ultimately the drab, flat, lacklustre, boring, direct, uneffective 'football' we are playing.

Listen - no need to preach to me about Irvine. From the day the ink went on the contract I said it was an awful appointment and a huge step down from the previous manager Brian Laws. In fact I think I said at the time that Laws was like Sir Matt Busby in footballing terms when compared to Alan Irvine.

You have to say though that this post is a little harsh:

Irvines a divy. What a load of pony. Can't even stand seeing his annoying dull boring face anymore.

I think we always make our job so much harder because we show so much respect to the opposition that by the time we get to the field we are pooing ourselves about how good they are because i bet all week it's been nothing 'Southampton are this', 'Southampton are that'.

Having led Sflaphorpe to friendly and Carling Cup wins against the Owls within the last two months, he said: "I am well versed in how Alan likes to set his team up and they will be very hard working, very well organised.

"The last four times I've played them I've played four different ways so we want to keep them guessing."[/b

..not something Southampton will have to worry aboiut....
