  1. Who in their right mind, would invest in, let alone buy, a business forecast to lose £30M in the next financial year? And , while not being a Chansiri fan, think carefully. We are a club with a recent record of just having scraped promotion from a virtually certaIn position of Winners to nearly also-rans. We have a superb fan base, but sadly one which knows the need for replacement players (a fa from cheap alternative ), are ensured a better brand of entertainment, but still want to pay less for the product. Maybe Chansiri's get out would be to cut his losses, offer a cheap Fans Buy-Out, let the Fans run the club, and retreat to his native thailand.
  2. Has anyone noticed the irony of thefirst two topics on this site? What do we want? Top class players (who incidentally do not come cheap) What is our second want? Cheaper prices . So , we want a larger wages bill, but also seem unprepared to pay for the priviledge. Don't you find this a little ironic?
  3. Despite all the triumph and celebration, one thing is missing - - - - - comments from our Lord Snooty. What's the decision from our noble Lord, or was everything finally too much?
  4. A couple of points spring to mind. The first is an old grudge of mine. We should never have been at Wembley in the first place. The whole set-up is a League, in which the teams performing consistently through the season are automatically promoted. It should not be , in any way, a 'Cup -style' competition. The FA run a perfectly acceptable version of this format. Results should be judged on a full season This season, FL Div 1 has proved numerous points. Three teams have stood head and shoulders above the rest. Had the result been reversed on Mon, it would have resulted in one team, who over the season, played 46 games, and won the equivalent of 3 LESS matches (plus 1 draw ) than the rival team. Is this justice? The whole 'play-off' system is farcical. and nothing but a cash-cow for the TV and Authorities. The second is the controversial use/misuse of VAR. It is no good saying what part it played in the final. Its use is stated in its name - Visual Aid to Referee. It does not take away the fact that the decision is finally the Referee's, and in both cases it simply confirmed, or refused to overturn, the decision made by the Ref. In this case, the Ref didn't make any snap decisions. He carefully considered in his own mind his decision, before acting. he then used VAR to confirm his decision. Rant over. As the Umpire said to the outgoing batsman, complaining he was never out - 'Look in the scorebook, Pal'
  5. Why, Oh why, whenever we get a performance like this, do we blame The Owner, the Ref, the Manager, and never the true culprits . . . . .THE PLAYERS. I'm sure that neither Chansiri, nor Moore, nor anyone else tells the players to go out and play like a load of crap. This same team has achieved a total of 96 points, the equivalent of 32 wins out of a possible 46 matches, yet since the end of their 23 unbeaten run, they have managed to loose against the likes of Forest Green and others. It does not make sense that either the Owner nor the Manager did not want Championship football next season. I cannot understand, nor believe that the players didn't either, so what went wrong? The blame, though, must surely lie with the ones who go onto the field. They certainly have not given 100% as they were doing.
  6. Is anyone of the same opinion as me? I say this NOT as adisappointed Wednesday supporter, though I am, but as a defender of 'Football'. Surely there is a distinct difference between the aims of 'Cup' and 'League' football. Surely the rewards for cup and league football are completely different. In a Cup format, the results are decided on a one-off situation. In the League, surely the idea is that the best teams are the consistent ones over the full league season. Quite rightly, the top two are automatically promoted. Why then ,should a team who have attained a points advantage over other teams, have then to go into an extra Cup style format? They idea of a play-off was first devised when the Premiership was extended, was initially to be for one year , but proved to be a money spinner. This is the only reason for its continued exsistence. Several clubs beside Wednesday have proved their superiority over a season, only to fail at this final hurdle. Ithas happened all too often that a team will be promoted over another who have obtained at least 6 points more in the season. nd that's the equivalentof winning 2 more matches in the season. Surely the time has come to either promote 3 or to have a play off in which ALL the top 6 teams are involved. And I hold this opinion whoever the teams may be.
  7. Most of these rules are already in place, but Referees are unwilling to enforce them, often due to lack of support at FA levels. We often despise our friends in Rugby Union, but I feel that many of their rules could and should be implemented into soccer to our benefit. For instance, in a scuffle, the Ref will blow then retire a short distance, and call over the offending player and the Captain. This could be done n soccer under the existing rules, with outside players being cautioned or yellow carded for 'ungentlemanly conduct'. As for the 'head injury' any player doing so should go off for a medical assessment and not return until passed fit to do so. As for VAR, once again we can learn from ourcolleagues of other codes in which the Ref goes to the Independent Video Ref, and asks 'My decision is a goal. Is there sufficient evidence for me to change that decision?. Players will push the interpretation of the rule to their limit. It's called human nature, cheating , whatever.
  8. Forgive me for asking, but do we have any good players (with the exception of Bannan and Palmer)? This website appears to be following a side that has NOT gone 22 league games without defeat, and is currently struggling to avoid relegation. What must it be like to support a side currently in the top 3, guaranteed a play-off spot, and with a fair chance of automatic promotion?
  9. Maybe, but Plymouth have to play Barnsley, yet! This could be a crucial game. And don't forget, promotion is a matter of simply matching the performances of the top clubs.
  10. Comment from a Luton Fan who listens and watches football. - 'Good game last night. Draw seemed about right, but your lads hit the post with last kick.'
  11. Well. At least our task has been simplified We MUST win on Wednesday, then all we have to do is match the Plymouth results for the last few games . The players must know this. It's in their hands Surprisingly no-one wants another shot at a visit to Wembley (unless they're a Blade)
  12. Maybe we should all stop panicking and leave it to Moore. Everyone said we would crash without Bannan, yet we were undefeated. With a raft of injuries and the odd suspension, we have just played 2 of the top six teams, one we held to a draw, the other ended our 23 match unbeaten run at their ground. Our recent run is comparable to our competitors, and our run in easier on paper. Don't forget that some of the matches are between runners, so they are going to take points from each other. I am a believer in 'points in hand' rather than 'games in hand., but I am sure that Moore will sleep easier than the Plymouth manager tonight.
  13. Just hope the lads have more confidence/belief in their own abilities than many of the followers. Up the Owls
  14. It simply proves my comment to my daughter, when she told me recently that her new Boss was an ex-Wednesdayite. My reply was 'There's no such thing. Once, always!
  15. Just pay the best tribute to Wednesday's finest Captain, and a true gentleman, inthenonly way he would want. Go and play your hearts out, or cheer til you're hoarse. .
