HOOTIE AND THE SHIT TU
If my memory serves me, the biggest attendance I have witnessed at Hillsborough, was the 49.000 or so for the Boxing Day Massacre. Just a bloke, who used up all his luck in one go when he met his wife.

horny owl
Mine was my very first Wednesday game against Man Utd In 1985, the Kop was heaving, was fantastic, crowd was 48,000 odd and I fell In love with Wednesday that day, beat Man Utd 1.0...was great. I remember that game wellThere was 48,105 there and chapman got the winner Hillsborough was epic before the seats and with the higher capacity. If you are younger than 25 probably.
bradowl
For me, Highest attendance, 55,000 Everton v Aston Villa League Cup final replay 1977. Highest for a Wednesday game 49,000 boxing day massacre. Cup games against Liverpool and Coventry City in 80s were very close to this many. HOOTIE AND THE SHIT TU
2-2 draw with the Scouse in the League cup was marginally higher. I went to that game and the replay. Shelton missed a glorious chance in front of the kop when we were leading 2-1 We got mullered 3-0 in the replay I was back at Anfield the following season to see us win 2-0 with a remarkable goal from Varadi. Just a bloke, who used up all his luck in one go when he met his wife.
Paul Triplo
49K. The crowd and the atmosphere at the Boxing Day massacre is what made me the sentimental stupid old fool I am today for this team. Will never ever forget it.

My grandad was there and often used to talk about it when I was a kid. In the sixties the capacity was "limited" to 65k for semi finals for a number of years though, if my memory serves me well. MAL
I went to that game and the replay. Shelton missed a glorious chance in front of the kop when we were leading 2-1 We got mullered 3-0 in the replay Singing, "We'll be back, We'll be back, We'll be back". "We'll be back, We'll be back, We'll be back back back". I was back at Anfield the following season to see us win 2-0 with a remarkable goal from Varadi. Then singing "We said we'd be back, and we are, and we are". Good times.
