Just our luck that we only had a 3 sided ground in 1960-1 when we had 2 capacity crowds.  (v Spurs and v Man U in the cup).

ah....just thought...... That list is just for Wednesday games.     been in a few 65,000 semi-final crowds there.

61-2 Man U v Spurs. 62-63 L'pool v Man U.  63-64 WHU v Man U.   64-65 Leeds v Man Utd.   65,000 at all these according to 'One Hundred Years at Hillsbro' though that is obviously tickets sold, not the actual attendance.

I also saw Rotherham v Arsenal in 59-60 FAC at Hillsbro.  56290 there.

Pleased it's not like that anymore.  Used to hate getting crushed against steel barriers when I was a kid.

It's been said that had the North Stand been open for that Spurs game there would have been a new record crowd of 85,000.

Biggest crowd I've been in at Hillsborough was probably full house v Man U in 2000.

Most Wednesdayites 37,500 v Wycombe. Absolutely brilliant.

The one between Rotherham and Arsenal was mentioned on football heaven other week by either Paul or Brian the miller, talked about it as if this was a record attendance at Hillsborough and they were all Rotherham fans.

I bet more than half of crowd was Wednesday and United fans.

Your memory is playing tricks on you. Only 50,080 in that Everton replay and only 56,363 at that Tottenham game in 50/61.

There was a 58,000 against Man U and a 55,000 against Burnley in the FA Cup that season though.

There was also a 65,009 against Man U in the FA Cup in 61/62. That might be the one you remember?

Thanks for putting me straight, I'm getting on a bit you know  , I was at both those games, I do remember standing on the touchline in front of the building site that was to become the North Stand for the second half of the Spurs game

2-2 draw with the Scouse in the League cup was marginally higher.

If you are younger than 25 probably.

I wish. I've seen a few 40k+ games against the likes of manure and whatnot, but I've never seen that many wednesdayites inside Hillsborough. Mind you I didn't start going to matches til 1990.
