duncanidaho
The genie is not going back in the bottle so VAR is here to stay. Some thoughts on how to improve it 1. Like in Cricket and Tennis give the reviews to the team. The manager has one review per half, if they get it right they keep it, if they get it wrong they lose it. 2. Get rid of the referee going to the monitor, it really slows the game down. The VAR team informs the referee what the decision is, just like in Cricket. 3. Have a time limit for VAR, maybe 1/1.5 minutes? If they can't conclusively prove yea or nay then go with the on field decision. It annoys me when managers, players and pundits say the VAR cost them the match/points/reputation/livelihood etc. Not a goalie letting in a howler, a bad backpass from a defender or a striker missing a sitter? those are acceptable are they? My other idea is to have snipers linked to the VAR team located pitch-side with paintball rifles who shoot anyone offside so the ref can see who it was who strayed... Or have players wired up with those electrical sit up pads and they get a belt when they are offside.
lukeyswfc
Problem with VAR js it’s becoming pointless having officials on the pitch. Might as wel have an official on the benches whilst a ref watches the game on TV and they can relay the decision for the on bench official to relay to everyone else. They’re the ones making the calls now. It was supposed to be clear and obvious but it never is.
beswetherick
The review system in cricket can create some drama and I feel it would allow VAR to add to the spectacle of a football match instead of its current status as the sporting equivalent of a jobsworth parking warden — after all, unless you’re a Wednesday fan, isn’t it supposed to be about entertainment? From a media consumption viewpoint it’d be great, imagine the aggro if Pep or Klopp or whoever had wasted their last review and then got denied a stonewall pen in the 98th minute as a result… and for the rest of us, we could actually watch and maybe even enjoy a game of football without a stoppage every 5 minutes because someone’s pube was offside
matthefish2002
Think have a limit of 30 seconds for VAR to make its mind up. If it cant decide after 30 seconds then its not a clear and obvious error and you go with the on field officials.
neo hippy
I've been saying it should be a review system for years. We've plenty of examples of it working in other sports. The way it's implemented currently is a right mess
edmontonowl
IFAB are currently discussing using it to decide various free-kicks across the pitch, yellows becoming reds and all sorts of nonsense. But they're not going to bin it
danblakemore
It is the yellow card situation that annoys me. Been a few instances of 2 yellows been dished out, when 1 was in error.
Dronfield Blue
Does anyone know why we don't use the 3D images like they do in Europe and other countries? The club World Cup yesterday showed how good it is and the decision was made in about 20 seconds.

Ellis Rimmer
There is no issue with watching replays in itself it’s that they are making mistakes despite VAR, bad ones

scram
Tbh it's not so much the tech they are using as it is the complete idiots monitoring it
edmontonowl
Clear handball by Odergaard v. Liverpool. The excuse he was falling down is laughable. Everton's 1st "goal" ruled out despite ref and lino not giving a foul (it prob was after looking at the replay) which shows how on-field officials have lost authority
Big Malc
Delicious to hear the likes of Dyche whinging about how shiit it is when they spent years telling us that video technology was the only solution to his sides losing games, though
