The Graph Thread 2017/18 - This season compared to previous two seasons

Recommended Posts

We are quite fortunate that at the moment it is looking like it will be a season whether the points needed to stay up will be below average. At this stage of the season the average relegation line is at 34 points, while currently only 30 points (and a better goal difference than Birmingham's -29) is needed to sit outside the bottom three.

Putting in it graphical form:

So unless the teams below us have an upturn in form (which they could during the run-in when they'll be more desperate for points), we should be okay.

Update after Bristol City. Sadly I think i'm going to need to make the relegation graph a regular thing for the rest of the season.

Look at that.

I’d forgotten that after game 16 we were ready to pounce. We were where we had been the previous two seasons.

We had beaten Villa that day, and compare the Xl to Saturday:-

Westwood

Hunt Lees Loovens Fox

Wallace Butters Bannan Reach

Hooper Rhodes

Whst would you give to see that side on Tuesday?

Birmingham on 30 points are 4 points below the 5 season average for a 22nd placed team at this stage.
This suggests that the drop threshold could be around 4 points lower than the 5 season end of season average of 46, so about 42.
Can we pick up six points from somewhere to get to 43? Over the past 20 games we've averaged 0.7 ppg.
At that rate we'd finish on 44, 1 point above what's needed. Happy 150th folks!

Lucky its not 2012-13 when Peterborough wend down on 54 and Wolves on 51

tbh Harrowby I can't see where another point is coming from

the teams below as bad as they are know they have to fight previous experience shows they will get points

Update after Bolton. At least the line is no longer flat.

Interesting that if the bottom 3 keep picking up points at the rate that they have this season so far, we could lose every match for the rest of the season and we would still stay up.
