Standing

Recommended Posts

I feel sorry for the sitters in here who have embarrassed themselves.

Many of us Standers have made it clear that our preference would be to stand but we would be considerate to the needs of elderly or disabled people sitting behind us (including sitting to allow them to see).

Many of the sitters in this thread (some with reasonable reputations before) choose to ignore this and vilify us all.

Shame on you for that. You only disgrace yourself.

Again it highlights that the usual middle aged men are so used to having everything their own way, at the same time as ruining the planet, that they struggle to understand the simple concept of consideration.

The increasingly desperate efforts to justify an abuse of stadium regulations to engage in antisocial activity that adversely affects some of the most vulnerable of our supporter base is increasingly laughable in its arrogance.

I emailed the FA.........this is their reply

We appreciate your frustration with regards to persistent standing at football matches, however it should be reiterated that the responsibility for ensuring supporters remain seated lies with the venue (whether this be a ‘home’ club or National stadium) and we would suggest that you again formally write to Wembley Stadium regarding this matter, outlining your concerns, and to seek their observations. In this instance there may have been operational reasons why they did not take immediate action to alleviate the persistent standing at the time.

In each case a stadium safety team/safety officer, using their stewarding teams, have jurisdiction to enforce the appropriate Ground Regulations in place at the stadium. If you experience spectators persistently standing and obscuring your view at a fixture it is recommended that you immediately speak with a steward nearby in order to alert the venue to your predicament. Action can then be considered by the Safety Officer which may be to take immediate action to deal with the specific problem or to identify those involved and deal with matter later – possibly in the interim relocating you to another seat without an obstructed view.

From a national perspective the football and safety authorities are working together to monitor and where appropriate share good practice in respect of persistent standing at football matches. The problem is one that is very difficult to deal with, particularly when large numbers of supporters are involved. It is problematic to have to enforce the regulation when the number of fans persistently standing is a significant number. There is an inherent requirement for cooperation from supporters themselves in such circumstances. In this sense, dealing with half a dozen supporters that may be standing is an entirely different proposition that trying to manage hundreds or thousands of supporters standing at the same time. However all persistent standing is monitored and appropriate safety management plans are then prepared in response to potential issues such as persistent standing in seated areas. In addition, the Sports Ground Safety Authority (SGSA) maintains an overview of all safety issues.

The EFL will endeavour to continue to work with the relevant safety bodies to bring about a change of attitude among supporters to persistent standing in seated areas. We are acutely aware of the impact of standing on the enjoyment of other supporters and encourage clubs and venues to deal with this issue as positively as they can.

Please outline your views here https://help.wembleystadium.com/support/tickets/new and Wembley themselves should be able to advise you in relation to events on the day of the game.

Thank you for contacting The Football League.

There you go, ask a steward to help you in "relocating you to another seat without an obstructed view."

It's common sense really. As has been said countless times over this thread, generally, people are decent, considerate people - if you can't stand and someone is standing in front of you them talk to them and come to some sort of solution/compromise.

Two elderly ladies behind me couldnt see a thing. They werent strong enough to stand for 90 minutes and all the younger boys in front wouldnt sit down

Inconsiderate deluded fools who seem to think standing is "fashionable" or "atmospheric" or whatever they think it is

I was absolutely disgusted with their selfish attitude.

We reported it to Wembley who texted back but did absolutely nothing

yawn yawn yawn bore bore bore

Whatever happened to treat others as you'd wish to be treated.

Were all getting older. There will come a day when none of us will be able to stand for prolonged periods. There but for the grace of God an all that.

I was bought up to respect my elders. Alas that doesn't seem as prevalent these days. Shame.

How many empty seats were available?

I dont think snitching is the answer. I think it just needs an ongoing awareness campaign.

As people said - MOST people are accomodating and will sit without an issue if its pointed out they are affecting somebody else who hasn't got the capacity to stand for 90 minutes.

Clearly - not some of the absolute n0bs in this thread. But MOST
