vulture_squadron
http://www.myoldmansaid.com/goodbye-friend-story-barry-bannans-villa-demise/ Apologies if posted elsewhere. When read with the comments below it's quite a balanced piece. Sounds like No 10 is his best position and he has prob been bought to compete with, or cover FF for the position. s29wfc
Wouldn't be so sure on him not playing, would quite like to see him play wide right attacker cutting in on his left, Forestieri in the number 10 and Matias on the left, Joao up top in a 4-3-2-
Brianmcgee
I think if he can play CM he'll make his mark there. It's probably cover for Hutch in reality.
fatzooma
He's not a wide player though..more creative midfielder. More of a Lee player?
Tommo_
Forestieri is a striker
Guest wilyfox
I think he's competition for McGugan. Similarly, Lee and Lopez probably contest the same place.

whatdial
FF is as close a player as we have had to carbone - positionally - and we need to use him in the same way. Let's hope he has the talent and attitude to make it a success. BB is a decent bit of business, free transfer for a season, let's see how it goes. His inclusion puts pressure on the team to perform. IstillhateSteveBould
Looks like a classic case of idiot football fans with unrealistic expectations destroying a lad's confidence.

Guest wilyfox
Lopez is a different style of player. But still contesting the same place in the side. They don't have to be carbon copies to fight for the same shirt.
bigrbuk
Martin O’Neill’s 4-4-2 formation had started to look tired and old-fashioned That won't impress some of the dinosaurs on here
IstillhateSteveBould
Was it guru who copped for a load of stick for saying Lopez was nothing special when we signed him? At this point it looks like he was right.
coreyswfc
It's obviously Lopez is a quality player. Just some players can't adapt to the physicality of the championship.
shandypants
Personal abuse from the stands was beginning to take its toll on the player as every corner Bannan went to take was met by an increasingly vile torrent of abuse. The player stopped wanting the ball and started pointing at team mates instead. A big change from the boy who wanted to get on the ball at every opportunity as a youngster in the academy. I thought booing made them play better...... Same thing happened with Bannan as what is happening with Nuhiu.
19owl08
It's obviously Lopez is a quality player. Just some players can't adapt to the physicality of the championship. Agree with this. Lopez has a great eye and more often than not is consistent with his passing, he has also played some great long passes too. But he looks slow and nervous in the tackle, and gets knocked off the ball too easily. Same can be said for Matias. Hopefully both will get used to the physicality. IstillhateSteveBould
Same thing happened with Bannan as what is happening with Nuhiu. No. Nuhiu's never had unrealistic expectations thrust upon him. He was a freebie from the bloody Austrian league. Bannan was being compared to Xavi
Lythamowl
This seems to be a make or break move for Bannan, get it right and he will do well, get it wrong and its Motherwell calling.......
