Sammy The Legend ....... Walk a million miles to see one of your smiles :)

Still my funniest moment at a game ever...Sammy climbing the flagpole on the Leppings Lane end  and coppers standing at the bottom of it waiting for him to come back down to nick him....he lasted up there about about 5 mins taking the plaudits from his admiring public!!

Keep believing and never give up.

With your fan base I am sure the Premiership will come back to you.

In some respects though I guess some may not want it.

For Swindon I would love a stable Championship existence.

That would have been achieved if our backer didn't pull out a few seasons back and thus ended the Di Canio era.

Fantastic times.

Still last word as I am in your patch.

Sincere best wishes to you this season and don't humiliate Leeds like last year :)

Keep smiling.

I was at the game when Sammy did his one man pitch invasion. The player he went down on his knees and started bowing to was Rodger Wylde, another legend from those dark, dark days.

Still, they were loads more fun than the sterile shizzle we have to endure nowadays

Swindon fan in peace here....firstly posted on the matchday thread as I know it probably gets to most coverage.

Where do I start .......

Started following my beloved Swindon in 74/75 season and my first ever game was home against Wednesday (Eric Potts for you olden's scored). You never forget your first :) Wednesday scored first and led HT 0-1 however Swindon scored 2 second half and went on to win 2-1.

Getting to my point that day I stood in with the away fans, not thousands that you have brought down many times since but a very vocal following. I have to give it to you that it probably changed my life. I had been to a few professional games before but I was hooked on the atmosphere however to this day remember a fan lifted on shoulders and a song that stuck in my mind for years :)

Couple of seasons later whilst on holiday with family I watched Grimsby v Wednesday in league cup first ground, first leg

You won 3-0. Once again the chorus of Sammy, with scarf around wrist caught my attention.

However it was the last encounter that made me post on your forum as a one man pitch invasion from the away end was watched in disbelief and a fan sank to his knees in front of a Wednesday player.

I recall "Sammy is our leader" coming from the away end and then I realised there he was again but this time he was led past the Town End (the home end that became my home) it was him. The spit and coins rained down on this "figure" escorted by 2 coppers. He looked up and just smiled at the Swindon lot but it was met with astonishment as he looked "different" no wee wee taking but you will know what I mean.

For years I wondered what happened as he never came back after that.

Sunday just gone my Cousin (big Town fan) married a Wednesdayite and the Wednesday band turned up as guests.

Luckily in the bar I met up and it was a chance to ask about Sammy.

"We would walk a million miles to see one of your smiles" came the reply. Better still a Facebook and picture was displayed after we got the wifi connected. Sadly I understand he no longer goes but so happy the legend and the one Supporter who helped me fall in love with football was found.

This prompted my post.

So I send my sincere best wishes to you all and my regards to Sammy who in my eyes was a legend.

You fans in the 70' and 80's made watching lower league football fantastic. A credit to what football supporters were about. You travelled well.

Remember Motd when Terry Curran scored and you went up. I was there.

Best of luck this season and I hope our paths will meet again. I doubt for a while unless we play you in a cup.

Who knows Sammy may make a return.

"We would walk a million miles to see one of your smiles ooohhh Sammy......."

Football then was better and miss the terraces.

Sorry for the long post. I feel I can now rest as unfinished business is now complete 1,600 Swindon games later.

Your cousin wouldn't happen to be Rockin' Robin by any chance would he?

And this wedding, was it in Nottingham and did it include an appearence from the three lions mascots?

If so, my god daughter was a bride's maid and your cousin married my cousin's partner's aunt.

Have to say it was your original post I found that prompted me.

Nice one mate.

Dark days ? ...... They were great man.

Loved playing you at Swindon as you always travelled well.

We're never quiet on and off the pitch.

Good luck this season.

Can't comment as said I started to go after that.

Never seen in the TE since ;) although you did try again a few years later.

Loved the TE then. Late 70's and 80's. You always got lost at Hillsborough so big but a lovely ground.
