1952Owl
Most of us believe that Vaulks needs a ball winning midfielder alongside him. Bannan needs to be ahead of those 2. Especially for Away games. Options we have? Vaulks - Palmer? Vaulks - Momo D? Vaulks - Hendricks? Vaulks - Iorfa? Maybe? Vaulks - Shipston????? So..... for example v Swansea? Dawson Iorfa Ihiekwe Bernard Palmer Vaulks Poveda Bannan Marv Ugbo Gassama What say you guys?????? 1

Vaulks is the ball winning midfielder and Bannan is much better in a deeper role. And Poveda at RWB? 6
1952Owl
S72owl Vaulks and Bannan alongside each other especially for Away games leaves us wide open at times. I said Bannan needs to play AHEAD of Vaulks. I believe Vaulks needs someone alongside him like Byers used to be. Hence why looking at our average squad, who do we have to play that role. I am not saying Poveda wing back! The discussion is about midfield bud. Vaulks on his own is not working in midfield. Especially in Away games as I said. Surely you can see the weakness in midfield?????? Oh and what happens if Vaulks gets injured or banned? OMG.
Owl In Black
For me I would move Palmer into midfield. This is his native position before he migrated to RB. He was put there to plug a gap and done well to nail down regular starts here in the past, but ultimately, midfield was where he started out his career. He has the defensive mindset as a result of that and always though his passing was a strength of his game, needed in this role. He will also be captain if Baz is out and you know you'll get full commitment to the cause.

What we need alongside him is someone creative. If that's the XI against Swansea, the set up would surely look more like this: Dawson Iorfa - Ihiekwe - Bernard Palmer - Vaulks - Bannan - Johnson Poveda - Gassama Ugbo But the big issue is really more about whether Bannan and Poveda are fit enough to play...
G-Reg
I think we hit on the best system a few weeks ago. 3 cbs, 2wbs, bannan and vaulks, gassama and poveda wide forwards, ugbo up top. Can't play both musaba and gassama unless pushing for a goal desperately. Gives a bit of solidity, decent ball retention (by our poor standard) and threat.

Agree with this but I'd have (and it's a close call) Pol for Palmer, Musaba for Gass but on the left with Poveda on the right.

Maddogbob
Controversial this but I'd stick Hendrick next to Vaulks and play Bannan in front of them. I'm basing this on Hendrick being a better midfielder than Palmer. Edited March 18 by Maddogbob 3

I can’t say I’ve ever really wondered what would happen it Röhl and Chris Powell started taking hallucinogenic drugs before picking a starting line up but I suspect that isn’t too far off the mark if they did…. - Beadle has done nothing to deserve getting dropped. Dropping him off the back of Ipswich would be the ultimate knee jerk reaction. - Poveda cannot play wingback. Hes not remotely suited to the role. If you’re saying he’d be playing as an orthodox winger then that shape would get mullered down the wings. - Pretty much every new manager to the club tries Bannan pushed up as a #10 and within about 2 games drops him back to #8. He’s far better playing deeper. - Gassma isn’t a striker. He’s not remotely suited to playing there. His strength is drifting between the lines and picking passes. The last place he wants to be is lined up on a centre half. Apart from that……. Edited March 18 by Blergh 1
Jim
I don’t think Momo Diaby has the fitness, athleticism or game to play in the championship. I would start Vaulks every day of the week given the current situation. If Bannan’s out for a while, it’s a flick of the coin between Hendrick and Palmer. Personally I’d go for Hendrick. He just might make the difference in the run-in. Either way Midfield is a big headache for whoever is in charge next season. 2
WorrallOwl17
Whether these two miss Swansea or not, we need to get back to the 3 centre backs ASAP, and I think Röhl knows this too. Back 4 at Hudds away and we get embarrassingly pasted, back 4 in the first half at Leicester, 2-0 down, change system and it's a spirited second half. Back 4 at Cov in the replay, get pasted again. All the positive results have been with a back 3 and surely Röhl knows this is the only way forward between now and the end of the season. If these two are injured a week on Friday i'd be going with... Beadle Iorfa Ihiekwe Bernard Valentin Palmer Vaulks Johnson Musaba Ugbo Gassama Musaba and Gassama in the same team when it's a front 3 isn't as bad, as we'll have an extra centre back to beef up the defence and they'll both have wing backs behind them to cover. Palmer in the middle worries me, but if it's between him, Diaby and Hendrick then it's Palmer all day.
Ash77
Dawson Pol iorfa bernard james Vaulks bannan johnson Poveda ugbo musaba Be nice to have another body in midfield. If bannan out palmer rcm & vaulks cm, if poveda out gassama rw swapping with musaba. James lb when attacking or can narrow to lcb with marv lb/lwb within game
The Dukeries Owl
Second guessing Danny, who is to say that if we have lost Bannan for a couple of games, he'd probably drop Vaulks as well and come up with another formation to show everybody just how smart he really is?
