Chris was here 1982-87 (thanks google), but I think the silver kit kicked in about 1986.

So, the guy on the right just maybe an official of Finlux from the kit launch. I already recognise Matt Sheppard on left (note club tie).

If anyone still cares two and a bit years later. OhForAnotherShez is right, it's a Finlux employee John Farnell.

Found this in a programme, first game of the season 1986......

Pretty sure that stand looks like olive grove from a picture or drawing I once saw.

It is indeed the Olive Grove stand ...

But it could still be Hillsborough..

That stand was dismantled and re-built where the South Stand is now ..

Not 100% Helmet but I don't know if those railings were at Olive Grove? ..

They were some railings in the early days of Hillsborough...

Great photo though ...

I found the picture and link to owlstalk when googling something last week. That prompted my memory of this thread and that I had seen the same image when sorting through my old programmes last month.

To be honest I remember a similar if not the same black and white image on the back of The Star that summer, announcing the new away kit. Kit releases were infrequent in those days so stood out a bit.

I assumed it was a yellow shirt (black and white photos in Sheffield newspapers then) and when I later found out it was grey, silver, purple and white I was shocked. That season was the first time I ever saw us play in anything other than blue and white stripes, white or yellow shirts.

Must be Hillsborough that. Looks like it says Sheffield Wednesday on the roof of the stand and we weren’t known as that until we’d left Olive Grove.

Love the picture. Fabulous moustaches.

Good shout "Stoffie"...

Didn't notice the roof artwork ...

It was the railings that made me think it was "Owlerton"....

Can't remember seeing railings at Olive Grove..

Just lanyards of rope from posts
