Whelan did a Bosman on us.

As  result we got a fraction  of what he was worth from Stoke.

Whelan cost us nowt was an excellent player whilst he was with us at times carrying the team himself imo and we sold him for 1/2 a mill the guy owed us nothing

No he didn't if a remember rightly we were in money troubles and tried to offer him a reduced term contract when he and Brunt were our best players we still got £750k for him which is more than we got for Hooper, Abdi, Matias, Jones, Pudil,. A profit no less as he cost us nothing and gave us 4 years service playing 142 games.

5 MOTM performances (and that’s club MOTM’s not official MOTM’s BTW) in a team that is crap and bottom of the league is not exactly setting the bar very high. The best performer of a team of terrible players.

Whelan like many has been rubbish and looked completely uninterested for a while.

To be fair at 36 years old he probably knows he’s done with football.

One final payday. More fool Hearts for giving him a contract. Why would you sign him?

He’s 35 not 36, admittedly at the tail end of his career, but he is still a regular starter for the Irish national team and he played 35 games in the Championship last season for Villa who were promoted from the Championship. I thought he would have been more than good enough, and fit enough to have made an impact in the SPFL, he wasn’t and it was a mistake.

Steve MacLean is still scoring goals and he's 37.

MacLean has been poor this season, he’s long past his best and is pretty much an impact player, apart from when we’ve been down to the bare bones. MacLean however has more professionalism in his little finger than that gobshite.
