Pulsar
Would there be any chance we could identify the players? The number 7 running away from the camera looks like Shutty with Glynn Snodin in the distance? Although what the hell a left back is waiting for a cross god only knows. Maybe Carlos had been managing us longer than we thought?
Prendo's boots
Im guessing at a 'normal' Central League game...only the South used to be open for these games...reckon lateish April as no one in the crowd have got their 'big coats' on either...plus all teams had ageing fat blokes as part of their squads too in them days so nothing strange there... Here's an idea - why don't we ask Neil where he got the photo from! True, so could be late '86, just figured pitch looked a bit worn and the weather a bit sunny for pre-Xmas. You may be right though - could've been a balmy September afternoon while groundsman was still on holiday! pgmetcalf
Yeah it’s Hillsborough and by the looks of the fencing and those budgie smuggler shorts, I’d say it was around 1980/

Is it some 'social experiment' mixed game. As Lomas said it's either a womens or mixed game or some unfit folks with moobs.. 82-84ish Edited February 15, 2018 by Flat Owl
Utah Owl
Can't be earlier than '86 due to the Kop roof, nor later than 92 due to the South Stand roof. We stopped using that kit in '87 (see below) so my guess is it must be 86/87 season. Probably a testimonial game (where are Dunsby & Kivo when you need them)! http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Sheffield_Wednesday/Sheffield_Wednesday.htm

Roof covered so presume 1986 onwards. Old South stand roof so no later than 1992. I'll go 86-7 or 87-8. Reserved for what? Look at the state of some of those, they can only be reserved for the knackers yard rather than top flight football. No wonder there weren't as many players out injured in those days if that's what teams had to call upon in reserve!

theowlsman
What I can tell with certainty is that the picture was taken late October, probably the 28th or 29th at around 3:27 pm. The length of the shadows, and the sun in the south west, gives it away.

Guest
Well, @@owlstalk... This appears to be the piggy kit, the Laver sponsor seems to be in a white box from what I can tell... so 86/87... Which was of course the season we played them in aid of the World Student games... And certainly played them in reserve fixtures (with some players I forgot even existed)... ...but nope, no idea what this game was!
