Press Conference

Recommended Posts

Press conferences are all a bloody waste of time IMO.

Whether you're on a winning run or a losing run its all the same old same old.

We wanna keep the run going/end it

So and so has got a knock.

Training had been good.

Blah blah.

Managers are probably even more bored of it than we are.

Just a bloke. Being dragged along in a world that moves too quick for it's own good.

Maybe more than meets the eye on Hutchinson. Apparently being ferried back and forth from training in a taxi for last few weeks. Driving ban?

Alcoholism? Speculation of course.

I suspect Jos had exactly the same problems with him and Westwood of course.

Interesting for Monk to say they Westwood was injured, after what Westwood had said on "Twit"ter

Of course this is the same side show we've seen before.

The real problem is we don't look like scoring.

Steven Fletcher, player Manager?

He's played half the fixtures he's been contracted to in the last three years.

Monk has claimed he's not going on the player's past histories - only what he's seen whilst at the club - and in that time, Hutchinson's availability has been better than most.

Then we line up the next manager up and he has a bad patch after a few months and the criticism builds up and we are on to the next manager.  So it goes on.

The new manager needs to get us up in the next six months and it just can't be done.

Not true. When the manager 'leads' the team on a run of 5 points from 10 games, playing poor football against poor sides, the fans will understandably be critical.

Hang on just a minute, didn't we on Owlstalk get our pro licence from Sensible Soccer? Are you suggesting we don't know what we're talking about??

I got mine from watching Wednesday for over 3 decades. Nothing sensible about that! :ghoulguy:

You say he has no track record. I would ask you why do you say that.
A little research will show you he got Swansea to a record points total in the Premiership.

The Birmingham local paper quoted he got 5be team performing better than the sum of the parts

At Middlesborough and Leeds his win ratio was in excess of 40%

It seems to me the problem might be elsewhere

Decent stats in your post, seemingly strange that all of the clubs you refer to chose to get rid of him after a fairly short period of time, where was the problem then?

Nothing wrong with Monk wanting to try and put together a settled side to have some continuity. Westwood clearly having apparent injury problems and we all know about Hutchinson, no arguments from me.

That'd be nice.

How many different players and formations has he picked in the last couple of weeks alone?

How many has Forestieri played in that time? Or Rhodes? Or Winnall?

Who would he play instead? Wildsmith seems to have been very poor for the U23's and he's already stated that Westwood is yet again injured.

We await news of the sporadic injury and if it's long term or chronic, what specialist treatment is lined up and if it is pointless, what about the club suggesting retirement?

Reading between the lines of Monks comments it sound to me like he doesn't believe they are injured half the time they say they are. If the coaches are telling him that they can't see any injury and the player is insisting he isn't fit there has got to come a time where the manager cuts his losses with those players. The danger is that that type of faked injury can spread among the rest of the team when things don't go their way.

It looks to me like Monk has got to the point of no return with the players in question and cut them out of his plans.

I've no idea if this is true or not but if it is I can sympathise with Monks attitude. Having said that Hutch does have a history of biscuit knees so maybe he is hyper-sensitive to the slightest twinge.

It's a mess which ever stance we take and the sooner we get to the end of the season and shift out the deadwood the better. I'm not bothered whether Monk stays or goes. In some ways I'm glad he's put his foot down but the current run of results must change. A couple of victories and I'd be happy to see Monk stay until the end of the season and decide his fate then.

We need more facts on the injury and on where there is doubt about  it

Well obviously but do we just keep sacking managers when we hit a bad patch?

I've said previously sacking him now is a risk as it would leave us with little options in terms of who would take us on at this stage with what is potentially hanging over us.

Just not convinced I would give him a close season based on the past quarter of the season where we have fell apart and his formations and selections have been strange to say the least.

He was largely successful for a good spell before Christmas but we only had one way of playing effectively which has seemingly been found wanting without just 1 or 2 players. I hope he convinces me otherwise in the remaining games of this season but I am becoming increasingly doubtful of this happening with every game that passes.

Well I thought it was a decent interview, he was pretty open and honest(as much as he could be), not sure what people expect from him really?

Who was the interviewer for the first 23 minutes?.......reminded me of Paul Walker, asked some good questions.
