Does losing in the Championship play offs qualify a bloke to take over a team that's has an ambition to win the Champions League?  Chelsea presumably think so.

Good for them, I don’t think it does... but it doesn’t matter what I think.

i admire the bravery on both parts though.

Only just still counts! He took the reigns when they were in dire straits and guided them to safety. 8 wins in 28 league games may not seem impressive, but you need to look at it in context: Macclesfield were a newly-promoted club who sat bottom of the football league, having picked up ten points from 19 games when he took over. There were also all sorts of off-field issues going on, such as players not being paid. To keep them up was impressive in my book.

I'm not saying I want him as our manager - I'd prefer someone far more experienced, to be honest - but in a world where Lampard can take charge of Derby having managed a grand total of zero games, it's not unthinkable that Campbell might be considered.

As for his choosing to sign for Arsenal 18 years ago - that would be the least of my worries.

I think it is unthinkable Campbell might be considered because we’ve already got a better, more experienced Championship “manager” in place.

Campbell was one of the biggest turncoats in footballing history with his Spurs/Arsenal fiasco, that’s enough for me to question his loyalty - how long ago it was doesn’t matter for me, it’s a proven trait. Apparently he’s walked out of Macc Town over wages too, 2 games in to the new season, another question mark over loyalty.

Carlos “just” got us into the play-offs in his second season, didn’t mean I wanted him a third season. So no, I don’t think “just” achieving something is necessarily good enough.

Honestly don’t see how, being there for almost the full season, finishing 3rd bottom of League 2 can be a success. It might have been acceptable, but a success, I don’t think so mate.

Please feel free to advise us how long someone should work without being paid, to avoid being called disloyal.

Sol Campbell is not an improvement on Bullen.

If we are not going to get someone with a proven managerial record, I’d rather stick with Bullen.

A fair few are talking as if it’s Bullen vs Campbell but there are loads of more experienced championship level managers already available. Campbell would be a really bold choice under those circumstances and he could well be amazing, but as we’ve just seen with two gambles as manager in Carlos a stylish and maverick character and a quiet thinker in Jos, it was a steady experienced hand that we needed in the end.

Christ.. Just shows that DC and his advisors are the same lame lot that got Jos in. How anyone can think this bloke would take us to the prem. I'd have Bullen a million times over him.

Intetesting that you disagree that much of this thread is Bullen vs Campbell then just mention those two

On what basis do you think "DC and his advisors" are thinking "this bloke [Campbell] would take us to the Prem."?

There is absolutely no evidence to suggest SC is being considered by anyone at the club for the job as manager or head coach.

Sky Bet and an Owlstalk meltdown DO NOT constitute such evidence.

I really dont think DC would give the job to someone as inexperienced as Campbell (at this level) even bullen has more and DC hasnt appointed him.

It would be a daft move, but you never know.

It's a matter of assessing the man himself. We've seen bits of Campbell on the telly etc. We're all entitled to our opinions but in reality none of us know much about him. He could be amazing. He could be terrible. Most likely he would be something in between. Whoever gets the job  - and I don't think it will be Campbell - we have to trust Chansiri's judgement and give the new bloke time.

Well that'll be a first.

Not as lame as someone believing a thread on owlstalk is accurate.

Probably shouldn’t consider other options then.

So some random bloke makes a thread and just puts Sol Campbell and now the bedwetters have decided he's been given a contract and had his press photos taken, have none of you learned anything from the Dotty and Rowett saga.
