Birley Owl 1867
Well everytime we lumped ball forward yesterday it came straight back near enough..... So what can we do?
bigdan2003
I don’t mind them doing it. But don’t keep making the same pass that’s putting us under pressure like they did so many times last night - Leeds were clearly instructed to close us down, so stop doing it The problem is though, when we did launch it up it wasn’t sticking - was coming straight back. Birley Owl 1867
I'd like to see us stick with it. None of out 3 goalkeepers have good enough kicking to play long, in fact Westwood is worse of the 3!!! We just need to get better at it, and realise in certain situations it needs to be changed and needs to go up.
TrueOwl
Sooner or later if we do it enough we're going to get less poo at it? Right?
mike312
The issue is simple, when Dawson rolls it out to a defender he has to have options to pass to. The midfield were too static last night and weren't getting free of their markers. Bannan in particular was poor but credit to Leeds for putting us under that much pressure. It's no coincidence that our best performances come when the opposition don't press and Bannan can dictate the play.
sherlyegg
Defensive probs will be sorted once Cahill joins us in Jan.
Ronnie Starling
Tom Lees is the worst player to pass to. He isn't comfortable on the ball and his position when he takes the pass is wrong facing Dawson at 45 degrees. He can't see up the pitch to where the danger is often resulting in him passing the ball straight back to Dawson.

So what can we do? The difference being the ball coming back from the L##ds half leaves us with plenty of men and ground to our goal, whereas when we lose the ball 12 yards out from our goal it's far easier for the opposition to get in on goal. We need to use both options and stop being too predictable, stop us playing it out from the back nullifies Bannan and thus stops us, we need more strings to our bow. cognacbarnowl
I remember back in the day when our goalie would send a long, accurate kick upfield like an old fashioned excocet missile ; In the centre of the oppositions half Boothy would soar majestically like a bird on the wing and execute a perfectly headed flick on...…… straight through to the oppositions goalie as we seldom had a player further forward than he was. Whichever way you want to play it you have to have the players available who can play that way. I'd much rather watch a team at least try to play it out from the back more often than not, but at the same time don't become predictable so that the opposition know they have nothing to fear from pressing high up the pitch. You have to keep the other team guessing, and occasionally do the totally unexpected. IMO Jos is doing a terrific job under the present circumstances and the results really aren't too shabby are they? UTO FFS

Guest LittleG
Just don't think our back players are that comfortable on the ball to constantly play it out from the back. How many times did we see Dawson play it short only for the ball to come straight bsck to him so he could hoof it upfield. The other problem last night was that when we went long it did come straight back but that's because our front two were isolated cos our midfield was sitting too deep. Feelthepayne
Just read through this thread, some people must be brain dead blaming the fans for us underperforming, playing out from the back is fine occasionally to mix it up, but ut cannot be done every time. If Jos is too incompetent to realise this, then he is a fool and it will cost us this season
