paul92vr6
So how can Bristol be bottom when they have won a game and drawn two. Rotherham have only drawn one.

thewookieisdown
The we've been lucky brigade are either mental cripples or closet fans of our junior neighbours. That said there is still to me a sense that we are underperforming if only because the high standards of the Newcastle and Hudds second half games have not otherwise been reached
N0rtherner
They should introduce a new symbol to accommodate us. W- (won but fans feels performance was so bad we should have lost)

They don't show the blindingly obvious (at this point in time, to those who see) though, but....what is the point stating the blindingly obvious to people posting things such as this. Putting things into context, Carlos has been about 12 pieces of luck away from losing his job this season. The only stat that matters is the number of goals you score and your opponents score. We are scoring more than the opposition and as such as are winning games. You don't get any points for playing attractive football and losing. Luck equals itself out over the course of the season and we've had some pretty dire luck as well as good fortune. But some people conveniently forget that. Dick_Turpin
We have got to perform better than that - said Ross Wallace about the Blackburn game. But wtf does he know?

The table shows the table of results since mid-November - Rotherham 3 wins and 1 draw = 10 points and Bristol City 2 wins and 2 draws = 8 points - hence Bristol City are bottom. I assume you're just looking at the "current form" section of the table which shows the last 6 games? It took me quite a while to get my head around there being no such thing as luck, but there really is no luck in life. Just probability, cause and effect. I've seen that quote accredited to all sorts of people over the years! Not that it matters. As you say though, the realisation that luck is just the way we interpret events can be a huge revelation, and can act as a very motivational concept once you start to tip the odds in your favour a bit more. 31Dec1966
It was Gary Player who said "it's funny, the more I practice, the luckier I get". We have been "unlucky" at Brentford, birmingham, Brighton (missed penalty rebounded at an angle to FF), and Derby. 11 points there we should and could have had. In the Blackburn game another way of looking at it would be that they only scored through an own goal, Wallace hit the bar with a free kick and their shot that hit the bar did NOT cross the line. Another view is that there is no such thing as luck. We haven't played well against Birmingham and Blackburn or Wigan but we've stuck at it with guts and determination and got 9 points. We played much better at the above 4 away games and got one point. I know which I'd sooner have!!

Over the years "lucky" teams have almost always started out by being very hard to beat, frustrating the opposition, winning ugly, building confidence, creating an aura around themselves and going on to build from there. You can play and win with flair once you've earned the right. Those other old 'uns on here will remember how Liverpool did that in the 1970's, and how over the years both Arsenal and Man Utd have learned to win first and become expansive later. It might not be as pretty as people would like to see but from where I sit we're going in the right direction and at all levels of the club we're building some seriously solid foundations. It might not be this year - we'll soon see - but there's every reason to be optimistic. You've put that better than I could, you're absolutely spot on with every point there.
