If Sheffield Wednesday moved away from Hillsborough...

Recommended Posts

Can't really say, probably Don Valley, but Hillsborough is too residential to be a leisure hub

What are these 'leisure' related facilities that would generate this 'demand'?  Which demographic are you aiming these 'facilities' at?

Take your pick, pubs, bars, restaurants, cinema, bowling, concerts, conference facilities, anything that can generate additional revenue

For those saying hillsborough can't cater for leisure facilities. S6 now has a costa......

Nothing saying wedneday couldn't open up and operate a ground based weatherspoons for example.

We could have our own chippy, Starbucks, Mini Counter only McDonalds such as you see in stations.

Or have a 'Hirsties Bar' or sports pub in the ground open all days to generate revenue.

This stuff shouldn't be difficult. Look at Derby. They have a Starbucks built into the grounds.

Nothing stopping wednesday approaching national brands to be done a franchisee to generate non match day income.

Leappins lane is ripe for complete redevelopment.

Those facilities already exist in abundance in the Don Valley.  Meadowhall, Arena, Centertainment etc.  Would there be enough 'demand' to service new outlets?

The old Airport site could be a potential location for a ground.

Not much leisure facilities around it, ripe for redevelopment and providing these facilities.

Who's going to use them?  Why would they travel there and not Hillsborough?

Hardly any retail around there. Massive multi millions being invested in housing and factories.

Same as derby and other new grounds. Retail parks grew around the ground.

The Airport Site IMHO is a far better location than S61SW for a new ground.

Meadowhall is just down the road.  The existing city centre cannot compete with it.  We have just knocked down a stadium due to lack of use.

You couldn't make it up.

IF a new owner ever came in I'm sure one of his plans would be to look into possibility of moving away. New start for em, cheaper to run etc

Aye mate, they give new stadia away in Lucky Bags.  lol

Any money they've got needs to prioritised on players.

I've always thought after the closer of the ski village Sheffield is ripe for an excape type entertainment village to further build on the city of sport theme, building a stadium along with that would make sense, especially on the airport land.

True. But I'm pretty sure they would still look into the possibility of moving away. It's been said before that Hillsborough's running costs are too high.

Only by clowns on here.  When challenged, nobody has been able to provide a shred of evidence to prove it.

It's the biggest myth on here and that's saying something.

Improving the squad certainly needs go be the main priority, but doing so means transfer fees & higher wages. While spending on the squad might result in a higher league position & an increase in match day income it can't be guaranteed. We're forecast to lose £5M this season so any new owners will need to also improve revenue streams from the outset. I'd prefer it if that could be achieved by upgrading & maximising the facilities at Hillsborough but I'm not convinced it can.
