Memories of a night game at Hillsborough against Toytown stood on the Kop. Backpass to Bolder, ball hit a divot in the area took a big deflection and went in the net. As bizarre own goal as you'll ever see.

I remember it well. Around 1982, Christmas or New Year game, only goal of the match and we lost 1-0.

Someone posted a video of the goal on here a while ago.

Tell you what Howard...why don't you post the relevant page from the IFAB app to show you are correct.

Either that or dont

Actually my name is Howard LOL

I know i am correct he could have used his hands

The refs comms clearly show he informed the keeper about the rules

As previously requested why don’t you just shut us all up by posting a screen shot of the relevant IFAB law

It's not this bit I have an issue with.

You said he could use his hand but not pick up the ball which is wrong.

The explanation when the law changed, to include the provision around attempted clearance, in 19/20 was this:

"When the GK clearly kicks or tries to kick the ball into play, this shows no

intention to handle the ball so, if the ‘clearance’ attempt is unsuccessful, the

goalkeeper can then handle the ball without committing an offence"

"Handle the ball" includes picking it up and if you disagree then you can double check by writing to IFAB @ lawenquiries@theifab.com who I am 100% certain will clarify this point for you.

Wasn't an own goal, ball took a massive deflection off the divot to take it away from Bolder, but a Rotherham player took advantage to put it in the net. It was just after Christmas either 1981 or 82.

Yes it was Joe McBride, Rotherham used to sing about it for years.
