4 4 2 in the champisonship?

Recommended Posts

Not for me. 4-2-3-1 with a target man striker and Paterson just behind.

Would be good if we could push Harris and Reach higher up against the opponents full backs more often and have them on the back foot a little. Noticed we had quite a lot of success against Exeter with us sometimes looking like a 4-3-3 which helps our striker not be isolated all the time and also gives Bannan more options to hit on the diagonal.

My preferred formation too. And best suited to the players we have. As well as the 3 being able to score they really need to get in and around the striker to support him. Too many times this season our striker has been so isolated that there hasn't been a team mate within 30 yards of him thus needing to defend for long periods. Hopefully a more positive minded coach will stop all that and make us defend higher up the pitch.

It’s the system Cook used at Wigan. Moore as the lone striker, with Lowe, Dowell and Naismith behind.
Lowe and Naismith were the wide players, but more wide attackers who could get in and around Moore, the target man. Darlow was the advanced midfielder linking the attack. He got a hat trick in that 8-0 defeat of Hull

With players we a 4-2-3-1 is most attacking formation we can muster with any success. Against better teams it could become 4-5-1 at times during game to provide better cover at back. With the right personnel it is possible to change form this formation easily to 4-3-3 or even 4-2-4.

We have problems with defensive midfield against energetic teams and this exposes defence. Playing two in front of centre halves helps combat this but having 3 ahead means they can not overwhelm defence with numbers..

Did you not see the Derby game?

Bannan and Pelupessy in the middle as a two and got completely overrun!

4-4-F*****g 2 doesn't work any more!

We won.

Fans said the same in 2015 and 2016...we get overrun. And yet we always got more points playing 442 than anything else.

Id be happy with any formation that doesnt include Harris. Abyssmal football player. Stealing a living.

I’ve long been of the opinion that his best position for us, would be as an impact sub from the bench He probably gets more opportunities because, quite frankly, we don’t have any forward options with pace Hopefully we will remedy that in this window

Yes we did, thanks to Derby missing chance after chance, what happens when we play a team that takes their chances!

4-4-2 does not work! Everytime we play it we are out numbered in midfiled!

Its so obvious even a blind monkey could see it!
