Fletcher was pivotal. Not just his goals, he bullied defenders, held it up and allowed the team to get forward as a unit. It looks as if that was always plan A. I’d be interested to know if Monk wanted to re-sign him - you’d have to think so, but now he’s gone, where is the replacement. Blatantly obvious in the situation were in we need a target man. He didn't achieve a third place, to achieve would have been to finish third. We were briefly in third before Monk got rid of supposed bad eggs and players still had good habits from previous coaches (Monk said he wasn't going to change things straight away) then once Monk did change the way we played it was all downhill and has continued on a downwards trajectory.
