Press conference called for 4pm

Recommended Posts

Got some right self entitled planks as fans us. Gary Monk is about as solid of an appointment as we could expect. Young, decent win percentage and got bags of championship experience. Leeds and Birmingham fans seem to rate him too and it seems he likes to play attractive football.

Let’s look at the two most popular candidates:

1/ Chris Hughton: I know as fact that he was never even approached for the job. This is from a director of football who works in the championship currently who knows Chris Hughton well.

2/ The Cowley's: Would have been a gamble. They have done well at Lincoln and seem to be a fashionable choice. People compare them to Wilder but he did it at multiple clubs over a good few years so the comparison doesn’t really work.

Love it DC slated for looking uncomfortable speaking in front of the press in what is probably not even his 2nd language. Didn’t realise we had so many body language experts either. Though Monk spoke well. Again not sure what people expect in these press conferences. He’s hardly going to stand up and give a Churchill type up and at em type speech is he FFS!

If Hughton was never approached for the job then DC really is being badly advised.

Bullen, he’s allowed to go elsewhere. Clearly none of those managers wanted to take them with him

Again, bruce has his own team, jos & carlos have gone abroad. How do you know they never asked him along but he didnt want to take his family to a country they have no knowledge of!???

It's a sensible and safe appointment, if not inspiring. I'm surprised that so many don't seem to be happy though, considering the worry that we were going to go for a risky appointment of someone who didn't know the Championship.

He plays an entertaining style and, without looking, I think he has a pretty decent record or results doesn't he? He's about equal to Rowett in my eyes, and everyone was raving about getting him in a few weeks ago.

And I’m just saying if he was so highly thought of one of them would have taken him with them. For a man that’s played in Greece, Australia and China I don’t think that would matter.

You'd think he'd want to broaden his professional experience elsewhere?  At some point?

Shocking lack of ambition.

Or maybe he values stability and his family life in Sheffield more than chasing money on the managerial merry-go-round?

That's a crock.  Give me a coach that's seen and learned from a variety of sources.  He's gone stale.

He wants to stay home, he's honestly in the wrong profession.

Neil Warnock would drive his tractor from Cornwall to manage anywhere.

So having an affinity with the club and preferring to stay somewhere it obvious he enjoys working is a bad thing?? . Being a first team coach at swfc is 'shocking lack of ambition'!!???. He said he'd love managers job here, so thats not ambitious enough for you???. He has 'seen and learnt from a variety of sources', all the managers he's played and coached under, and now he's bringing that experience and knowledge to a club he clearly feels strongly about. He's a coach, not the manager how has he 'gone stale', his day job is to run drills and training that the manager dictates!!!. He knows the club and the squad inside out, for me thats invaluable info to pass on to Monk to help him get up to speed asap
