Not sure City look like also rans.

Today? I think they do.

They could be any opponent IMO. Very mediocre. As a neutral I’ve been very disappointed at today’s spectacle. Only one team in it IMO.

In only November, it’s Liverpool’s to lose seemingly?

Mendy, Zinchencko and Angelino I believe he means.

All pretty crap.

There is also Cancelo who can play LB too.

Perhaps 100s of millions was an exaggeration, but Pep hasn't got himself a good left back yet.

Didn't they have Delph playing there in his first few seasons?

Danilo too, a RB but played LB a lot.

Yeah Delph played there a lot last season, so much so he is registered on this years FIFA game as a LB not a CM.

Thing is with Peps teams, hey have always looked shaky defensively when pressed. It's just that mainly they aren't pressured. And that's with and without the starting players.

Less than £60M on the 3 combined so hardly 100's of millions, especially by the standards at that level. Zinchenko played a lot and was successful back end of last season, he would struggle to play now with a long-term injury.

I agree none are world class but not spent much on them really other than Mendy.

Completely agree it is Liverpool's to lose but City could easily have been a goal up rather than Liverpool first 10 minutes.

Losing 3 or 4 key defensive players in defence will always get you found out away to the best attack in the league. City have made some questionable decisions though in not buying another top class CB and sending a goal keeper out on loan who is better than Bravo as his best years are behind him.

Can’t disagree with any of that.

But as a “neutral” - someone who really doesn’t know the intimate details of football, City don’t look “special” anymore.

The King is dead - long live the King.

* Don’t like VAR either, not objective or consistent enough. It’s rubbish IMO.

Nothing lasts forever, City will finish 2nd at worst though.

None of the City back 4 or keeper from today would get near the Liverpool side and Liverpool have the better defensive midfielder as well. City attacked well today and were unlucky/made poor decisions/got poor decisions otherwise they would have scored more but if you don't have a base to win the ball back or stop the opposition then the best teams will punish you.

VAR is beyond a joke, ref's reluctant to make big decisions as they have VAR to fall back on but VAR all too hesitant to then overrule the ref. Offside is a nonsense in the PL.

Liverpool look good this season because the other 5 of the usual top 6 all have problems.

None of them, for various reasons, are a patch on their quality in previous seasons

Erm?  If they didn't have problems they'd be top themselves.  That's usually how this works every year, someone's top, others are not.

Or are you trying to insinuate that somehow Liverpool doesn't deserve to be where they are?

City are in a period of transition.

The spine of their success (Kompany, Silva, Aguero) have either moved on or are in the latter stages of their career.

For some reason, they didn't replace Kompany and they may well pay for that this season.

The defence is an issue right now and the backup keeper is a bit rubbish.

It is all about cycles in football and it looks like City might be coming to the end of one of those. Unfortunately for them, this Liverpool team is in its absolute pomp.

Probably also worth acknowledging the fact that key players are out at the moment.

Laporte is the second best CB in the league imo and he is a huge loss.

Stones, Otamendi aren't up to the task and Fernandinho is having to play out of position.

Ederson is the best or 2nd best keeper in the league, whilst Bravo is just a disaster waiting to happen.

Going forward, City were good today, albeit they were a little bit wasteful at the critical moments.

This Liverpool side are so dangerous right now and they could very well go the season unbeaten in the league.

The only thing that might stop that (going unbeaten) is a very busy December period.

Many of the best teams in Europe are in the same situation as well. Bayern recently sacked their manager, Barcelona have signed players in areas of strength and not strengthened where they need to, Real have key weaknesses. We all know about Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea's issues.

Juventus recruited well in the summer and Liverpool are settled, it seems like most of the others have plenty of work to do.

It’s not normally how it works.

It is very unusual for so many top teams to be so poor at the same time.

At the same time Liverpool have got over their injury problems and have a full squad available.

Of course they deserve to be top because they have won their games but the competition is not at the normal standard
