Is the loans window open

Recommended Posts

Cannot remember whether the loans "emergency" or otherwise is still open. I was told a couple of days ago that Bothroyd is on 60k of which QPR pay 54k and we pay 6k. Before the debate about are we getting value, I have always been uncertain about the loans system especially last season. Danny Batth was a key player if not THE key player last season. Antonio was key in the final surge as was Treacy. Not sure about Ranger's contribution. But how much of their salaries did we pay?

Is it fair, did we get promoted by using players who we were not paying. Are we comfortable with it. What goes round comes round.

When it comes to beating the Scum then everything is fair but as a general rule is it right.

Who was that prat from Bradford who scored twice against us for the scum at Hillsborough when we lost 3-1 could have cost us the League title.

Wolves used it to bring in Jermain Pennant yesterday, so i would guess it is.

I dunno know if he's on that or anything like it so not commenting on him specifically

But football is absolutely mental - it's monopoly money and nobody picks up the tab - other than "the club" - and if the club get to the point where it can't pay its way then thats the only time anybody takes notice. Look at Pompey for an example.

Until that point nearly all fans favour the lunatic profligacy that keeps most clubs on a financial knife edge.

Football as a business is amoral - it's like a lesser version of the casino bankers - just chuck obscene amounts of money around and if it all goes wrong then so what - get out with pockets stuffed full of cash while the ship sails into the iceberg.

That holds true for most clubs at all levels of the pyramid - just the numbers at the top end are incredible

Good post. Rooney is reputed to be on 250k a month £12 mill a year. The only other sports I can think of who are anywhere near are the U.S. sports but the cash that can be generated to pay them are much bigger in comparison so are more affordable. Most American sports if not all have wage caps As was said on the radio the other day, when the money goes up in the Prem next season most of it will go in the players and their agents pockets and no doubt ticket prices will rise to pay for it.

The difference that you're not factoring in is, licensing right to the Far East. A huge market. The US wage cap thing is bit of a misnomer, as it's legal for players to broker their equipment deals which can be huge. What I mean is Adidas make our shirts and the entire team wear them. In the states, an athlete signs with say Nike, they wear they gear exclusively. That isn't taken into consideration of the cap.

True my main point though is that the American market is bigger and presumably generates more cash to pay the huge salaries

And what you're not factoring in is that apart from a few hugely established clubs such as Man U, Real, Liverpool etc - the Far East market is a myth

I remember years ago how Crystal Palace were gonna sell billions of shirts in China because they signed Fan Zhiyi and the eastern fans were gonna go mental and all support Palace etc

Can't believe that despite all the facts since that people still buy into they shyte tbh

Guest Brammy (On The Move)

Just to throw it out there, would bringing in 1/2 loan players help?

We're alread having problems gelling... but I'd take a quality centre back I suppose.....

I'm sure you have to bring in whole ones.

I would imagine Rooney's on around 120K-150K a week
