Lincowl
Firstly it was a decent battling performance, in a game we should have won in the end and we definitely have a better team than United. However along with Lines (probably a squad player at best) Reda and Jermaine were our standout weakest links IMO. Reda was regularly caught out of position and beaten at will, his limitations at leftback shown time and time again as they repeatedly targeted him. Think Bennett deserves his place as a steady specialist leftback, while Reda is a decent third choice centreback for now. JJ was apparently excellent in pre-season but since coming back from injury looks unfit, overweight and dare I say it a good yard or two slower into the bargain. Thought JOC did reasonably well in the first half so this change was definitely for the worse.
HOOTIE AND THE SHIT TU
I've stated this in another thread, but I thought Lines had a decent enough game, he was nowhere near as bad as some people are making out. Just a bloke, who used up all his luck in one go when he met his wife.

Lincowl
Lines played like a better version of Potter IMO. Passed it around okay to little effect. Like I say okay as a squad player but not worthy to partner Semedo in the first team regularly. Maybe Palmr or Prutton will step up to the mark. Agree with this in a way but i think Lines had just a bit of an off day like some others, keep him in there at mo i think the balance between him and Semedo works better. davethemagicweasel
Lines has been excellent since moving into the centre imo. A little below those standards today, but the tempo of a derby match is never going to make it easy for a central midfielder to shine, especially when it's 3v2 in there. Don't write him off yet. And if his form does dip, then we've got Prutton/Palmer who can come in. Isn't squad depth marvellous? :) Edited October 16, 2011 by davethemagicweasel

Yeah I agree, out of our options it may well be Lines proves to work the best with Semedo. Which might suggest we need a new option bringing in. Nothing - i agree with what you said - we are at the point when striving for perfection is a possibility.
Guest bigblue
Lines is our second best central midfielder, so a shoe in for that position for me. Semedo has played much much better without Jesus trying to do the same job alongside him. Prutton will do a better job than JOC on the right (flip me, he wants shooting if he can't!!!). JJ isn't a footballer.

Jowl
JOC has had 2 nightmares on the trot and should be dropped. Right thing to replace him (even though JJ was poor) Reda did ok but both him and bennett seem to get sucked inside / out of position. Lines is a good player even though it wasn't his greatest game Other than that, yeah good post.

Spookone
I am a JJ fan but he was pretty hopeless today and why was he in the middle of the park so often, surely Megson wasn't telling him to do that. I dont see the point in bringing JJ on and not having him flying down the wing and drawing players to him. Having said that I am a very happy Owl tonight
RichSheffWeds
It is no coincidence that ever United attack came down their right flank. They targetted Reda Johnson and weren't wrong.
Bluesteel
Thought Reda was great at Hartlepool, perhaps struggled against Quinn/Williamson today but he wont come up against too many better. Left back is still a bit of a problem position. JJ I think needs the game time, we need to bite the bullet and get him in there, he takes a while to get going. Yep and I think Bennett would have been much more solid at leftback, just as he was against Chesterfield. He has an aggression and presence that doesn't encourage the opposition to want to run at him. I like Reda and rate him highly but favour the player in his learned and favoured position. Could he have got himself fitter during his stupidly earned three game suspension though? Definitely carrying some extra weight.
