Moving forward? You bet.

We are all guilty of having short memories from time to time hence this thread. Now there are quite a few Megson bashes out there and for the life of me I just don't get it, eg. Previous managers AI and BL failed to see that we had a weak centre mid, the same managers also saw Tonny Spurr as a solid fullback not to mention a central defense that was breached 2/3 times every game and got bullied on a weekly basis.

Now I'm not saying we have a manager who is god but what we have is a manager that has come in and recognized the problems that have been apparent to us fans for years. Out goes Potter and JOC out goes the weak defense and in come solid seasoned pros with very little outlay to make us a solid team that will develop into play off contenders for sure. Yes there's work to be done but he has put the foundations in place to achieve success and his signings are first class. He was very quick to see the likes of M Morrison and M Reynolds are not good enough and will look to move the latter on at the first opportunity bringing in solid no-nonsense players who work for each other and are proud to wear the shirt.

Now there will be some of you saying well what happened at Bury(yes I was there) and Bournemouth but Rome wasn't built in a day and this is the strogest team we have had for 10 years+. The guy will be one the best managers we've had in the last 20 years if given the chance, has Wednesday in his blood and demands 100%. Good times are ahead I'm sure.

I agree with most of what you say and it does seem that Megson has a brilliant eye for a player.

But we really have to sort out our away form. Our home form is super, 8 wins out of the last 9, but we have to find out what we're doing wrong away from home to progress to genuine title challengers

Get the defence working properly as a unit and get an additional striker in and I think we could be right up there for sure.

We played good possession football today which was good to see, I sometimes think that can leave the defence exposed, but weve looked just as shakey when playing hoofball.

We've certainly come a long way in some aspects of last season in terms of attitude and confidence on the ball, plus weve added some players with a good delivery in Lines/Marshall. We now just need to replace Mellor and get the defence back to how frugal it was under Megson towards the end of last season.

I agree with most of what you said. But I think it's clear that they're two types of fans'. Those who want to watch fluid football, or for entertainment, and then they're fans like me. Fans who see Football as a sport, and knowing that the most important thing's winning.

Remember we still have JJ, COG and another Striker to come in. Our attacking options should then be a lot stonger. Plus if we are stronger going forward, teams wont be able to attack us with as many bodies, meaning we should also concede less.

We have made a half decent start I agree but your memory is also quite short by the looks of it.

You mention the weakness of BL etc and the fact we have the strongest squad in 10 years, but ultimately we were a mid table CCC team in the 3 seasons under Laws (average finish of 12th) and under Megson we are so far a mid table League 1 team. We have a long, long way to go to even get back to where we were under Laws, never mind to kick on from there.

So are you saying that we have a weaker first 11 now than under Laws?

So are you saying this is not the best centre midfield pairing we've had in years?

It all depends how we get on against the top 6-8 teams in the league, last season we lost them all, if we perform in those big games we go up.

I suppose the next 2-3 weeks will tell us if we really have improved.

What we have is a manager who speaks his mind and isnt afraid!

BL always seem to defend the players too much and in the end got him the boot.

AI never had a plan B and plan A very rarely worked, you could see it all before your eyes if we went 1-0 down we were fooked!

Now megson tells every motherf**ker whats going on! If they aint performing he will tell em!!

A good old fashioned take no sh*t manager with more than 1 plan and his flippingprozone!!

By definition it must be, as we finished 9th in the CCC under Laws - this team are an entire division beneath that team.

In terms of the CC pairing I remember Potter playing like Scholes in his pomp for the first month we had him, so time will tell whether these 2 lads can be judged on the terms you suggest.

If and when we reach the next level it will be a whole new ballgame, And i for one reckon Megson won't settle for league one tactics but will change personel to suit ,At the moment we are gearing up to tackle league 1, When that is achieved and we are promoted ,You can bet your life new stronger blood will be forthcoming

I honestly think we are just a couple of players off having a very good league 1 team. I'm also a little concerned about what happens in january when we lost Batth and Marshall. Hopefully we will be able to extend their deals because they are both crucial to our chances of promotion.

lol they are much appreciated.

I've always tried to be a realist mate and for the first time in God knows how long I'm actually going to Hillsborough expecting us to win. Megson has changed us from the shrinking violets we've been at home for a decade into a team who looks comfortable on the Hillsborough stage. When was the last time we had this kind of home form?

I'm not getting carried away because I know we are still only 9th but the foundations are there to be seen. We've hit rock bottom and are on the way up.

To true mate aint it nice to have a possitive feeling for once , nice and steady does it ,

Within all the positive stuff that has been said in this thread there is one bigger positive.......Looking to last season and the start of this, the wieght on JJ shoulders was immense.....A good dribbling winger like JJ who can hold the ball up out wide or go for the jugular, we never knew wether to have him slow the game down or pick it up. Whatever, our or Megsons choice, If JJ was flat then no problem to the opposition, If JJ was buzzing the opposition would 2 or 3 him up and we would n't have an out ball. Consider how that will change with JJ one side and Marshall the other.....A lot of deffences will be stretched to breaking point and where maybe JJ lacks a bit of deffensive responsibility, Marshall does n't appear to have that weakness.

I .'. feel we are looking forward to happy times and plenty of goals, fingers crossed for 50+ home points.
