Your First Wednesday Hero!

Started watching Wednesday in late 1940's, and my first real hero was a certain JIMMY DALEY. Only small but a superb club centre forward. I was gutted when in a match against Barnsley, he was dropped for a young red-headed lad, who played terrible.

Not long afterwards, another legend was born - the rather raw-boned red head came back into the side, and became my second hero - a certain Derek Dooley.

After years of watching the Owls, and seeing numerous legends Quixall, Finney, Froggatt and others, I well remember us selling Tony Kay to Everton, a transfer which brought into prominece a man for whom I have always had the greatest respect, not only as a man, but also a great footballer who, though born a Geordie, lived and breathed Wednesday, and gave his heart and soul for the club - Gerry Young.
