Beholder
Well I can only judge him on the past, how the roger can I judge him on the future? I'm entitled to my opinion of him, as you are yours thank you. He looked out of his depth last season and on today's performance he does again. His positioning and passing was well below average yet again, better teams will sus him and exploit him for the weak link he his. I'll remind you of this as the season goes on. Please do. I think you will find that our full backs will be plenty good enough for league 1. Buxton included. But we'll see won't we?
Guest BarmyBetto
yes the defenders cant pass but at the end of the day they did their jobs today. i thought purse was man of the match too!
Guest Sheff Owl
Problem with Buxton is he is a better CB than RB, he seem's to get caught out a lot at RB. When he played at CB he played far better than he has ever done at RB. Still saying all that i would not have him in the first team - a back up yes. Bluesteel
If we are to be promoted this season, we cant defend like we did at times today..we need to be much tighter.
Guest East_Dene_Owl
Wtf are you on about? Our defence were far too strong for them. stronger, quicker, cleverer...each and every one of them. And Buxton was fine aswell. You can't expect teams not to attack us. They got their fair share of the ball but everything for they threw at us they barely had a shot on target. So what's the problem? ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^This!!! One of our better players today.... Guest bartos
Buxton is, or rather, can be good when on the front foot. What let's him down is he doesn't always appear fully alert, he let's balls bounce and like alot of our lot should be showing for the ball more

My worry is that they could and should have got shots on target but didnt...because of their own shitness rather than our outstanding defence. We defended well at times but relied on let offs at times too. I think better sides wouldve opened us up.
TheWednesdayBoys
Can't stand him but I thought he was very good today. Especially in the first half. Chasing a ball down over 50 yards and won a corner at the Kop end summed up his game today. Exactly, i dont rate him but he did nothing wrong today. Purse was different class though! dan27
The only problems I had with a few of the defence today was them letting the ball bounce and not attacking it instead.
shez owl
Buxton did well today, he is no attacking threat that's a fact, but at least made the effort and defended well enough. Beevers was very poor looked very nervous and just does not learn from his mistakes and so was spurr 1st half.
Hawkeye
thought Buxton was pretty solid today, him and spurr made a constant effort to get forward too.. Purse won everything and dominated their strikers all game, and beevers cleared every 50/50 that came through. My one gripe was that beevers and purse just hoofed the bloody thing all day, with coke and then potter too in the second half it would have been far better if they just played a simple pass to the midfielders so we could have held possession. Thought weaver marshalled them well all game too.
Silkstone Owl
Now I didn't think that the stick that Buxton gets on here was totally fair, but after today's performance he's useless, can tackle, poor positioning, no awereness and how shocking his is passing! On another note I Didn't think that Beevers and Spurr were that much better, especially Spurr, clearly doesn't know what to do when the ball is played long his direction! And non of the defence can pass and that was the cause of our problems today, the defence with aimless long balls just giving it back to Dagenham! I have to agree with this, bar purse who had an okay game, buxton is crap (bad positioning,D and R exploited him too many times) Spurr n Beevers made a few schoolboy errors also. You only had to look at Irvine's massive rant near the end of the first half that he wasn't happy with Beevers/Spurr. I think that Irvine has blind faith in Buxton, which will cost us this season. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the 3 points but a lot of room for improvement!

Thought weaver marshalled them well all game too. My one hope is that that was a confidence thing more than anything We had a spell second half where we actually kept the ball and knocked it around for 15/20 passes, involving almost every player (until Potter went for a Hollywood ball that went out for a goal kick) that showed we can do it, but right now we have too many players that aren't confident enough or happy enough with the ball at their feet. They don't want it from other players, and they definitely don't want it at their feet when under any kind of pressure - which of course is the lingering impact of having spent the last 12 months in a team that consistently was beaten I think if we can string some wins together, that will improve in every player in the team Edited August 7, 2010 by TheGodfather
oldishowl
Don't really care whether the defence can pass or not, although Spurr seemed incapable of passing to Teale in the second half. I only get concerned when we don't clear the ball properly. Number of times we head it up in the air or knock down on the edge of our own box worries me. We have a defence that played in the championship last season and we should be dominating forwards in this league. They are all big enough. BRADDAZ
The mad chase he did to win that corner was a bloody good effort. Overall I thought he was ok. To be honest, I'm not a fan of his and I've seen him have numerous nightmares but today he was fairly solid. However I do think that against a Lallana, Puncheon, George Boyd he'll struggle. Overall as a defensive unit we were pretty solid but the opposition wasn't particularly good.

TheBoyBeevers
If he had been a new signing people would be saying he had had a pretty decent game. Much like Purse, it doesn't really matter how he plays- he still gets stick. He cost about 25 grand from Stoke reserves- we knew we weren't getting bloody Pele, and we've seen that any half decent winger will tear him to shreds when he's playing at full back. But we're in league 1- he's only going to come up against wingers with real quality on a handful of occasions. So just chill, please.
