Sunday might not be a must win... even if results go against us!

Recommended Posts

It's also bonkers that the following highly improbable scenario could also play out:

Birmingham and Huddersfield both lose on Saturday

We beat Blackburn on Sunday

Following weekend

Huddersfield and Birmingham draw

We beat West Brom who are relaxing due to securing a play off position

We are safe with 1 game left to play!

I think what I and seemingly most people reading this thread are "struggling with" is your insistence that being 4-5 points away from safety with just 2 games left would be OK because all we'd have to do is win our last 2 and pray that other results go for us as well.

There's a difference between mathematics and realism.

I can see the meltdown on here if we don't win, but it's not over.

We're a team who plays well, creates a lot of chances all be it we don't convert them very often and can switch off in defence!

But saying that I wouldn't be surprised if we got 7 points out of our last 3 games.

Every game now is must win, we are fast running out of time for 2nd chances.

For me, Stoke last week was a "must win" seeing as it was the easiest game (on paper) remaining. Now we are faced with a scenario where we MUST pick up more points than 2 of the teams above us and that to me means every game is a must win now. We cannot reply on Udders, Bum, Argyle, Stoke etc dropping points - look at last weekends results at Plymouth and Leeds. What we must do is take 1 game at a time and win. Winning does breed confidence and I dare say, that if we were to win the next 2, it would give us the confidence to go to Sunderland and take the 3 points. All hypothetical, I know, but one game at a time. Keep it tight against Blackburn don't give Szmodics an Inch of space THE WHOLE GAME. No switching off and fight like our lives depend in it. Do that, pick up 3 points then concentrate on WBA at home and repeat. We can still do this but need to be up for the fight.

I'd take that in a heartbeat. But can WBA secure a play off place this weekend?

Not this weekend but by the time they play us yes.

On Saturday Coventry are at home to Ipswich, Hull Travel to Watford

Then on Tuesday Coventry travel to Hull

Hull need to pick up 2 points more from their games than West Brom get at Leicester whilst Coventry would need 4.

Middlesboro and Preston could catch West Brom on points but probably can't turn the goal difference around. (19 and 28 goals respectively).

Coventry aren't playing this weekend because of the Fa cup

I'm just relieved that we've not had a game all season that was "must win."

Wonder if the team has adopted a similar approach?

Would explain our current predicament.

It's ok, we don't need to win on Sunday, on the basis that every single one of our rivals could lose/drop points.

Quite a relief to hear that tbh.

Not sure I'll even bother watching the Blackburn game on Sunday now. I mean, it doesn't really matter does it.

People saying others have tough games. You mean like Plymouth and Blackburn did last weekend? Saying Sundays game isn’t a must win is just very naive. Look at the league table, look how many games we have left. We have won 1 in 7. Do we really look like a team capable of getting 7-9 points from our last 3 games.

Exactly.

There's always another game isn't there.

*Checks table and games played*

Definitely not. I'm far too pragmatic to gamble.

I did start my post saying it was highly improbable

We might not have had any 'must win' games yet but we've had plenty of 'free hit' matches. How did they go?

All have to be must win games.

No more wait until 2nd half testicles, no more play out in to our own box it isn't bringing teams on to us and creating space. It just creats opportunities for us to fizz up and let goals in. It's 3 Peterborough games! We might not be 4-0 down but all 3 teams are dar better quality. Its the old 3 cup final classic. One at a time. With out goal difference we have to go all out. We need goals. We can get a few and park the bus... IF we have a few or have one with little time and will get slaughtered if we attack. BUT no more wasting most of the 90. Just like Peterborough game (2nd leg obviously) go and get it. Against Blackburn to rattle.them maybe a bit more caution with West Bromley unless they are keeping fit for playoffs and Sunderland get in early so they think sod it I'm on holiday
