An interesting read regarding players wages and some outrageous facts.

I think they decide to use them because the club picks up the bill. It has to stop !

No it doesnt have to stop. An individual using a third party to advise on and negotiate contract terms is perfectly normal and reasonable in all forms of working life

Christ I spent 35 years selling blowers for a living and we all used them.....and yes, the bill was paid for by the employers!

Well Ian it's not the club that coughs, it is we, the fans. It will stop both individually and collectively. The only certainty is that the form of everything is in constant change.

You’ve been told before. The fans don’t pay for anything.

and the constant change quite is rounduns…….or have you suddenly started breathing anything other than oxygen…….or don’t need water to live any more?

I’m in danger of broadening this discussion to breaking point but couldn’t help noticing this paragraph in today’s press.

“FUTURE has more than doubled the pay package of its chief executive to £8.8m after a string of takeovers helped propel the publisher of Horse and Hound magazine to within sight of the FTSE 100.”

We routinely criticise footballers for their salaries, yet others, in other occupations, earn vast sums with little comment.

you wouldn’t have to fork out £30/£40 for a magazine because of it though.

maybe a top shelfer but certainly not a horse and hound one!

And you dont have to fork out £30 / £40 to watch football due to the players wages either

People make the mistake of commenting on the cost and availability of live football purely from the point of view of those attending games.

When in fact, like it or not, more fans dont go to each game than do....and for those who don't or can't attend then the current state of play which includes the whole TV merry go round which predominantly funds the players wages has made watching to team you support, live and comprehensive highlights packages, much more accessible.....infinitely so

Due to the escalated cost of doing so exacerbated by eye watering player wages and extraordinary amounts paid to mysterious agents and advisors

Honestly think the clubs above 100% will end up bust one way or another. This cannot continue and its getting worse. I actually think SWFC are in a terrible financial position and it will all end once DC decided he has had enough. Derby in a worse position than us and once Mel Morris decided he is not investing it shows they could be finished.

But then where does that leave clubs that have a larger fan base (more income) such as SWFC, Forest, Birmingham etc? We spend more to compete getting in debt or we sit in league 1. Its just not as competitive anymore due to parachute payments forcing clubs hands to invest if we want to go up. I'm not backing the ridiculous spend and bad ownership one bit but what do we actually want as fans.

To be profitable would our natural position would be lower-mid league 1 in terms of income vs spend. Get bang average players on low wages etc.

All this will come to a head and if we cant pay (which we can't) then we rot in lower leagues.

Am gonna write to Chansiri on behalf of the player agent survival fund and ask him to make season tickets a minimum of £4000 a season which even then would only be enough for player agents to tread water and survive

In reality they need more but as Bob Geldof has proven just raising awareness of their plight might trigger more action to save them

its not free to watch it on tv either and also question why those fans who don’t attend aren’t attending, it’s all well and good for a single working lad or lass, add a kid or 2 to the equation and it’s a small fortune for a working family.

football is for the fans and communities, take that away and you have a soulless football pitch.

Incorrect

Players wages are the sole, only and total reason that ticket prices have escalated to as high as they are

You are missing my point which is that the vast majority of supporters can now watch games by not attending games.

That wasn't possible in the past

Its not far off free.

And packed houses in the prem would point to the fact that fans are attending

He’s right though.. I pay £25 for Sky sports and for that you get 4 PL games a week plus football league games and league cup, plus all the other sports like the darts and the cricket, golf etc.. most things you’d want to watch. BT is less than that but can’t remember how much and you get the other PL games plus champions league.

Its pretty good value for the armchair fan.

For the paying spectator, it’s hard to argue that prices aren’t at the right level for the top flight as they all sell out most weeks.

Football league is a rip off though as stadiums mainly half/a third empty. But then again owners can’t drop the prices with FFP and what not

If you subscribe to sky sports as a supporter from any club outside the top flight, you might get lucky and see your club live on tv 2 or 3 times a year.

let’s say it’s £25 a month, that’s £300 for 2/3 live games, how is that free??

all my money and any lower league fan money is doing is helping to saturate the premier league clubs and anyone connected to them.

I really don't like modern football, sounds a bit pretentious but it has lost its soul a bit.

But you can point to the fact that more people are attending professional football and more people are interested in football than they were 30 years ago.

It is a bit rubbish, but it's the same for (almost) all clubs.  And what's the alternative for Chansiri?  Letting go the current players and signing a new team who accept less than half the wages would improve the accounts for a year, but I don't think it would be good for the league position...
