Classy from Jordan Rhodes

We should base everything on the 6.8 games represented here.

Of course not.

But taking that fabulous record, and the outrageous record this season, why would anyone not want to try it again?

He is by far the best player at the club for finding space in the penalty box and probably our best finisher.

I hear all this talk about him being a passenger outside the box and understand it but to a great degree that’s down to the manager and the rest of the team.

Play an attacking 442 so we get crosses and balls into the box and he could do well.

Play a counterattacking style and he might as well be sat with me on the Kop.

Having said that his career started going downhill here when the chances stopped going in. He missed a few easy ones , hit the woodwork a few times and all of a sudden his confidence went and he became a bit part player in a defensive team with a manager that preferred his favourites

So while to some extent he isn’t suited to how most teams play if those chances had kept going in he would have been a hero and as fans we wouldn’t care which era he is suited to . He didn’t come unstuck because of what he can’t do, he came unstuck because he stopped converting his chances and the confidence seeped away.

Probably too late now.

Monk finally paired Fletch & Rhodes in the last 3 games before Fletcher got injured.

Brentford 2-1 (nil-one down when Rhodes came on at HT)

Derby 1-1

Forest 4-0

All 7 goals were scored by the partnership.

Yep..........and then drop him....nice Monk.....

TBF I understand that.

Rhodes & Fletcher is prolific.

Rhodes & any other current striker is awful.

Oh, the Emperor has bought himself another fine new outfit has he? Look at it nobody in the sunshine.

One afternoon in Nottingham 1+0 appearances, 3 goals.

Rest of his Wednesday career 38+31 appearances, 10 goals.

Hmmm... now which of those defines the three and a half years he's been here?

Absolutely, can't justify the outlay we have spent on his performances, you can't spend around £8M and £30K a month on a striker who is useless except when paired with one specific player.

However, while that partnership with Fletcher is an option and other options such as Wickham and Nuhiu have looked inept in the most recent games then it has to be worth consideration.

Yes.

Bristol City and Stoke.

No goals scored while they were in partnership.

I was at Stoke.

To be fair as a team we were absolutely awful although I think we led at one stage.

But as regards the strikers it was the old story. Play 442 and the strikers have to cause the centre halves problems.

They had Batth and Shawcross and we never won an header .

It's amazing how quickly we managed to go from almost a full starting eleven of decent striking options to what we have now; Fletcher (and even he could be about to leave), Forestieri (star severely dimmed in the last two years) and some bench fillers.

Yep, we always seemed to have too many to choose from, now its difficult to justify choosing any other than Fletcher.

We had Hooper, Forestieri, Joao, Nuhiu, then we got Fletcher, even without hindsight it was debatable whether we needed Rhodes or Winnall, we certainly could have done with a bit more elsewhere in the squad. We ended up with both, neither of which have been able to nail down a place even when 2 of the initial 4 have left and one of the others has been out injured a lot.

The return we have got on the £8-£10M in transfers and circa £45K combined wages per week for 3 and a half years on Rhodes and Winnall does not make good reading.

And then Rhodes faded after that. He was a great player at Huddersfield but is now a spent force. Let it go.

that says more about Nuhiu than Rhodes imo. Surely the big lanky striker should be the one winning headers.

How come Nuhiu is judged on his ability to hold up the ball, win the aerial play and score goals but Rhodes isn’t?
