Dom Howson has delivered another cracking article in The Examiner today, interviewing Wednesday legend Jose Semedo

Here's just a quick snippet of it where Semedo talks about playing at Hillsborough

"It is not easy to play for Sheffield Wednesday because the crowd are demanding," he said. "That is why they are a big club.

"They are a big team and the fans are there every week demanding the team be at their best every week.

"It is why it is sometimes difficult to play at home. The fans are demanding and have big expectations.

"As Sheffield Wednesday players, you have to understand that and know if you give your best, regardless of whether you lose or win, they will support you."

I’ve never understood this kind of comment. Do other clubs fans not expect them to play their best every match?

Theres no excuse for a dismal performance, especially when it becomes the norm. It just means you aren’t good enough as a team and set of coaches.

That's another player who's come out and stated the size of expectation at Sheffield Wednesday and the home game environment

One of many current & ex players to come out during this break and comment on how heavy the weight of expectation is when playing at Hillsborough.

Cant help but think it could cause an even larger negative reaction if results at home don’t pick up when they inevitably come back behind closed doors.

We're no different to any other fans.

Give your all, obvious effort and win - great atmosphere.
Give your all, obvious effort and lose - still get clapped off.
Nesh tackles, be second to the ball and not match the opposition for determination - players will know about it.

Which can only mean one thing - that we aren't doing enough examination of a player's mental toughness when sifting potential players. It's alright being able to beat 15 men in front of the dog and his owner but another if you can't replicate that in front of a 20k crowd.

Kinda true although a player like Semedo could be deemed to have done it successfully during his time here but he still states it as a factor.

Agree however it's like a Marketing Director freezing when doing a pitch in front of client day in day out - they would get sacked

I know what you're saying but again you could have a marketing director going to do a pitch to clients, only for the clients to boo him into the room and not laugh at his jokes as he does his pitch

That's more realistic comparing to Hillsborough crowds

lol

The question then needs asking why are they being booed? Is it because they don't put a shift in? Because they don't seem to care what the fans think the present lot with a few exceptions

Yeah I think you're right mate. The ones who can't don't, and the ones who can't do it as well as the others DO but get booed because they can't do it

lol

Unless they were a Marketing Director for a company that made frozen products.

In which case that would be the perfect pitch

Just standing there freezing solid

Then walking off to massive applause

WIN WIN situation

lol
