Socialist_Owl
So everyone liked the Bruce appointment. Revisionism. I distinctly remember the moans. Unambitious. Blew it at his last few jobs. Uninspired choice. I think the only thing going for him was at least it wasn't another Luhukay unknown.

Wilko I didn't know enough about but he did a cracking job. The first real biggy (in more ways than one) was Mr Atkinson, we were a fairly unfashionable club, playing a pretty direct style whilst he was Mr Bojangles from the mighty Manchester United, an interviewers dream always there with a ready quip, the fact he came to us was a total bolt from the blue and he changed the football philosophy completely and was the catalyst of the good times to come. From Pleat onwards we were employing men to plug the holes in a sinking ship, managers who'd come off the back of decent achievements elsewhere but never reached the heights again. I was happy with Sturrock after thinking he'd been treat a bit harshly by Southampton. No one really caught the eye after as Carlos was a total unknown (but he did wel)l until cabbage head turned up, great record of promotions from this league and gave us all hope until an obese owner of tacky sports shops stuck his oar in. in those 2 lines written in bold we have one of the biggest problems that swfc has. we were 'unfashionable', we still are, but some refuse to see it. the 'complete change in footballing philosophy' brought about by bfr is almost totally impossible to replicate, and attempts at 'replicating' it has become an enormous anchor for us to bear with us. it has brought about the 'insistence' that what should be our aims have to be done in a 'certain manner'. wilkinson's and big jack's 'successful' approaches aren't any good to us anymore, it has to be done in the bfr fashion, and that 'anchor' is getting heavier to carry with every season that passes. How can employing the manager who’s had the most promotions from the league we’re in be seen as being unambitious?

As supporters, we seem to think we have a tradition of playing lovely silky football but apart from the 90's, this hasn't been the case in my lifetime. I've seen us gain promotion under big Jack, Wilko and Dave Jones/Megson's sides, all of which were direct and a lot of the time exciting to watch. I loved watching the BFR/Francis sides but am more than happy with direct football if it's played in the right way with the right players and it's not just aimless hoofing and long throws. I just hope Monk isn't a tippy tappy hold onto possession at all costs manager.
Mr. Chow
Tbh my era have seen some crap, my fave manager was sturrock especially when he took us to the playoff final, one my favorite ever memories that. Wanted dave Jones to do well too but turned out terrible.
BowOwl
Well on the flip side I was raging about Jones being hired and Megson sacked. But got us up on incredible form, despite the following season have to say he did the business that was needed at the time.
