Ref & South Stand Linesman

Recommended Posts

Not seen a thread, which is normal when we win, but though the ref was really poor yesterday, but not as bad as the south stand linesman. The incident in the second half where they both spent what seemed like a minute looking at each other waiting for the other to give the throw in before the linesman eventually blinked first and gave it the wrong way summed them up perfectly.

What did get so wrong?

Well, let me think back to the dozens of people around me on the south stand complaining about him......

1. 2nd half penalty

2. No using his yellow cards

3. Ignoring fouls on some of our players

4. The list goes on....

Even at half time he was escorted off the pitch with stewards as the fans boo'd him.....

Geezuz!!!!!

He did have a lack of yellows - but rather that then ruin a game with so many cards. Gace us loads of decisions that were 50-50. Can't remember the 2nd half penalty shout tbh - only the first half one.

So you list of 3, 1 is dubious and the other subjective. Also you sit in the south stand.

The handball in the 2nd half....

So the boo's at HT from all corners? Care to explain that?

I didn't hear any boos at all from the Kop.

I think I must have blanked the handball out - I do vaguely remember some shouts a few times.

But despite you view that the ref was awful, there's been no thread until today and no clamour from the Owlstalk meltdown crew. FACT

He was really bad. Both sides suffered TBH. But from our perspective Hutch got 'done' 3 times in 1st half. No yellows. Allowed them to time waste but did add lots on.Two footed off ground lunge only a yellow. Loads of other stuff.

He gave us a couple of fouls that weren't.

That throw in was a shocker. North around me thought he was a joke.

You can't see much ont kop though can you?

I don't think it was a penalty on Reach in the first half, he miscontrolled it and the defender got a touch on the ball. I'd like to see the handball in the first half again though when Fletcher's shot was blocked, their player looked to put both hands up.

Hutch would definitely have been carded if he'd made the thigh high challenge that went unpunished against him.

I think the fact they didn't show us a relay after the incident tells us everything.

The problem is that they tend not to show yellow cards early in games because it means they could probably end up sending somebody off.

There were two or three challenges on Hutch in the first 30 minutes that would have got yellows second half.

You can get away with all sorts first 30

He was pretty poor.  Didn't let the game flow and spent aaaaaages fannying around at every free kick.  Should have booked Garner about 14 times.  Every one of their fouls was a foot left in on our players, should have been cut out early on.  He missed 2 hand balls in the box, along with another couple outside.  Missed all the shenanigans off the ball from Wigan, kicks and trips after the play had finished or just blocking runs off the ball.

His marking out of the 10 yards with his spray was comical though.

Just not bothered...

I could write an essay on the officials' performance, but to keep it short I'd say it can be summed up perfectly by the farce that was Grigg's re-entry to play following treatment at the end.

Hardly the refs fault, Grigg came back on the pitch without permission.
