Remember travelling to one ground sat on an up-side-down bucket in a Bedford cf. Can't remember who's ground it was but it had the back of a supermarket in one corner sticking right out. The fastest I ever ran that day to avoid a kicking.

Sorry Mike posted on Costello 77 reply to you by mistake it's Burnden park Boltons old Ground with Supermarket in the terrace

my favourite was probably the 1st game in the 3rd at southend ....was working at butlins in skeggy and went on the train which wasn't an easy journey ,arrived and asked some old fella which way to the ground and followed his directions only to get down to where he sent me to find they hadn't played there since 1955 .no matter found roots hall and a riotious day  will be remembered by the 1000s that were there......bonus on the trip home was being on the same train as the Newcastle team on there way back from west ham and having a few words with the bloke in my avatar telling him how the lads had played ................for those that wernt there we lost and things didn't get any better coz we didn't win one away game all season

Used to push trolleys in butlins when I was a kid.  Some of the tips we were making back then.

We were making more than the managers at the time.

i remember the trolley boys think they earned  more on a Saturday than we did all week .....they were too young though to get the real perks of working at butlins .

Was as bad 77/78 season, remember going to Tranmere boxing day 77, really unusually warm weather, must have been touching 20 degrees.

No buses,  so long trudge into town, basking in glorious sunshine, thinking is this gonna be the turning point.

Nah, lost again.

No you didn't...non of us did lol

Yes we did at Derby. There was a shed load of us in the upper stand behind their goal. The home fans below were taunting us by singing "there's only one way out". We got a police escort back to the station.
