Guest owl from retford
The last 5 goals we have conceded have all come from wingers that can cross mcleary tore us apart at reading, whittingham made jones goal vs cardiff & mings made the two for ipswich shows the importance of a winger that can actually cross a ball we all go on about strikers not scoring but they are never going to without the service Gray needs to rectify this as soon as because maguire and maghoma are not up to it drenthe was just coming good for us its a shame he went get a winger or two and we might just see some improvement ? Skyline
I thought it was Freddie Sears that crossed for one of them... Could be wrong though. Edit: But yes, I noticed the quality of balls going in, compared to what we offer. Edited February 12, 2015 by Skyline
stowyowl
We do really need a winger or two who can cross and we would create plenty more chances if we get them, however the lack of quality balls in at the moment doesn't excuse some of the misses our strikers have made when they have had a chance. BiggsyOwl
Agree service provided to strikers needs to improve all round. It's not solely down to wingers though, Mings is a full back & Whittingham is more a midfielder than winger.
Mr. Chow
Strange question but has Mcgugan played on the wing before? His crosses looked against Cardiff and he's got pace just thinking if he'd be better playing on a wing for the rest of the season. We need a winger fast!!! Guest wilyfox
But we've heard all season it's the strikers. I won't have anyone suggesting we need a winger. I'd never agree with that.
Guest Fedor
What you need is some comma's and full stops. I'm out of breath reading that.
The Dukeries Owl
It all goes to show how much of a simple thing it is to head a ball into a net
owlerfan1
can remember when some good balls have been put in the box from out wide, and not an owls player in sight. also, if our players are in the box, they just stand there waiting for the ball to come to them. nobody seems to make good runs into the box to anticipate a cross coming in. imho there is more needed than just a couple of wingers. WalthamOwl
And yet some people on here think we don't need a winger, madness.
swfc4_sufc0
So those two sitters missed by Big Dave against Birmingham were missed because they weren't crossed by wingers?
gurujuan
So what does that tell us about our full backs, or is that not the point?
adelphi1867
Three of those goals all came in from OUR right back position. Saturday: Not cutting out/stopping the cross coming in. Ipswich: (1) Full back heading the ball back into the danger area instead of heading the ball out for a throw in. " (2) Buxton getting caught cold and losing the ball. Agree, we need some one, any one, who can cross a ball with some degree on accuracy, either form a dead ball situ or from open play, I believe gray knows this and will rectify when he can, don't forget a winger is supposed to have turned us down recently. RyanSWFC
It isn't easy to put good crosses in on such a shocking pitch.
